A leaked report shows that Vancouver's mayor wants to make Vancouver a 'sunset community' where Native people aren't welcome. He has a plan to deport Indigenous residents of the city to their "home communities". www.bcafn.ca/news/regiona...

Yes the return of Buffalo makes me happy but so does the return home of Swift Foxes to the southern grasslands of Saskatchewan and Alberta. 📷 Nature Conservancy of Canada

180 overdoses in 10 days. Prairie Harm Reduction needs support now more than ever.

I’ve been struggling to formulate anything that feels sufficient in response to what’s happening in Saskatoon. In our beautiful homeland, our beautiful hood. It is a massacre. Lend your strength to Prairie Harm Reduction & folks on the frontlines. Take care of each other.

This might be a good time to introduce everyone to the concept of "the imperial boomerang".

Indigenous people urged to get racially profiled at Canadian-owned businesses

at least we still have reconciliation

when i started writing echolalia echolalia several years ago, i had no idea there would be a beautiful orange snake on the cover just in time for the year of the yin wood snake, surrounded by lush green in the form of Jia Sung's "snake eater" (2021). i'm very grateful for the gift of poetry.

"I remember all the people who have passed on, who fought so that we could be here. It is because of the people of #GrassyNarrows who travelled to Toronto to walk and who never gave up that we have accomplished this.We still have so much to do before we have mercury justice" - Judy Da Silva

If you don’t think education in the west as a double edged sword are you even being serious? So much of the brutal relations of domination are justified & maintained through and in education. It has been insurgent knowledge(s) (like Black Std) that offer some hope of escape/relief — maybe freedom.

American anti-DEI madness has already hit local Canadian artist Zachari Logan. #Sask

My alma mater is getting rid of many programs including Women & Gender Studies and Indigenous Studies.

“If you are moved by someone, by someone's work, by their friendship, anything - tell them. You don't know how much they might need that ounce of encouragement, to feel noticed, to feel like their efforts are worthwhile.” - Victoria Wright

“All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was. Writers are like that: remembering where we were, that valley we ran through, what the banks were like, the light that was there and the route back to our original place” Toni Morrison

In his new book, poet and journalist Mohammed El-Kurd rejects the notion that Palestinians must prove themselves worthy of dignity and freedom.

Taking time for grief is the work, too.

The word “telephone” now feels like “chesterfield” to me, but the former has a more pleasing mouthfeel

My book "The Skin We're In" was published five years ago today It's still the most meaningful writing I've done, and I'm grateful it was published and continues to be read The paperback, e-book, and audiobook (read by yours truly) are all available here: www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/536075...

When I was 24 I was sure I was already ancient, when looking back, I was just a kid. I wonder if I’ll feel the same about this moment, ten years from now.

And the insistence on assuming the absolute worst when Indigenous folks are talking about how to resist is peak anti-Indigenous BS. Ugh. We aren't the ones shaping settler colonial violence, and you don't get to skip relationship building with us just because you want us to follow your lead.

There have to be other ways to talk about political community inside nation-states without invoking nationalism. How about collective responsibility to those whom we share nothing in common with beyond the sanctity of life and geography? Let’s take the opportunity to invent new social relations.

“Accelerationism proposes that we collectively let things unravel to their full extent – socially, politically, economically, environmentally–by stoking, rather than seeking to mitigate–the forces that drive us toward devastation…”

While there's attention on tarrifs, less attention on state of emergency Trump declared on US-Cdn border Canada is now doubling down on border miltitarization ($1.3 bill, surveillance tech, 25% increase in deportation). And not withdrawing harmful Safe Third Country Agreement (border wall w/ US).

I’ve found the concept of hypernormalization really useful. Of course, @naomiaklein.bsky.social’s “Shock Doctrine”. And always going back to Indigenous philosophies I learned when I was younger to remind myself there are people who know how to make paths when all we have is the ground & our feet.
