I know the Sensible People line is that the tech CEOs aren't *really* committed to the authoritarian-right slide and will definitely just "swing back" in the other direction when the wind changes but I do not believe that this is the case, or that they intend to let the wind change.

i wonder how many days post wisdom tooth surgery recovery i can eat beans again

support of free markets, truly underserved in the market of ideas and opinions! brilliant, jeff!

hmm have been reposting a lot lately, usually a sign of The Anxieties for me

I was part of an ultimately unsuccessful union organizing effort at a tech company and I learned just how true this is during that time.

asked and answered

Covid gave tech workers more power than they’d ever had before and they used some of it to push for better policies on racism and sexism and the bosses got so angry they decided to burn the world to the ground rather than listen to what they had to say

Election coverage in the international media can usually be neatly divided between people trying to explain to you what happened in a foreign country and the people explaining politics in your own country using a foreign country as a dodgy metaphor.

i think this is basically what has happened a big chunk of the american pundit class

Made my day 😌

Dear manager, This week I: 1. Was broke but happy 2. Was poor but kind 3. Was short but healthy, yeah 4. I was high, but grounded. Sane but overwhelmed. 5. I was lost but I was hopeful, baby. Eric

do you ever think about how fundamentally silly your life was when you were a person who still used bagless vacuum cleaners

In addition to the Refugee Convention, the U.S. has signed the Convention Against Torture, which commits it not to return someone to a country where it is likely they would be tortured. Just mentioning for no reason. www.theguardian.com/world/2019/f...

great piece, amazing banner: 'migration is the mother of all societies'

The Schmitt has hit the fan.

chaat is so pretty

Bernie Wagenblast, the iconic voice of @mta.info subways, has a message, the day after the feds took the letter "T" referring to trans people, off websites about the Stonewall National Monument. @thecity.bsky.social

the voice of the u bahn in berlin is a trans woman too! youtu.be/CQgjkj69zYM

the bar with respect to german politics is in hell right now but touched by the email from my union chairman explicitly rejecting the attempts to use yesterday's attack in munich to foment hatred toward migrants

If only the Tsar knew!

as long as we're reckoning with maps as political tools: while google maps almost immediately updated their satellite imagery to show the scale of the devastation wrought by the fires in los angeles, the destruction of gaza had to wait > a year for a regular update cycle

i got really mad over the weekend re: the way a certain internet leftist was talking about immigration and now here we are gabydelvalle.substack.com/p/the-spirit...

"The rightly formed conscience cannot fail to make a critical judgment and express its disagreement with any measure that tacitly or explicitly identifies the illegal status of some migrants with criminality."‬

i think the thing that’s going to stick with me most from this are the bits about bureaucratic continuity and how anyone who thinks you can run a modern state without a bureaucracy is thinking like a child (many such cases)
