I think even this summary doesn’t get the point across. Grants are basically buying services for the people of the United States. Sure, they may be a little less profit defined at times, but there are usually rigorous outcomes defined. This is how we get new medicines and technology and research.

Made my first few FT8 contacts on 20m tonight. Icom 7100, 40% power, inverted vee speaker wire antenna hanging off my porch. One in Minnesota, one in Mexico City, from South Florida. A little anticlimactic, but nothing burnt up! Next time will be better I’m sure!

Making a lot of trips to Miami for our OB appointments these days, and I can always tell which podcasts were downloaded on the trip because all my dynamically inserted ads are in espańol. Which I love because while I do speak un poco + free practice, I love wasted marketing dollars more.

Clearly the “govt is good, actually” is a nonstarter. We need to 1.) humanize govt workers (your hard working neighbor) and 2.) be extremely clear about the first order benefits that people are getting from their tax dollars. National parks are a great example, national weather service is another.
