I can't help but fear we are going to wake up tomorrow to find ourselves engaged in yet another ill-conceived war in the Middle East. economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/interna...

That over budget line is equivalent to 400 5-year biomedical research grants.

Atul Butte died yesterday. The world lost a giant. A big bear of a man. With a huge smile. With love for everyone. With energy that could power a room. I loved everything about Atul. I loved how he was always happy. I loved how excited he was about science and helping people.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

Part of the nationwide "No Kings" protests yesterday, here's what 7 continuous miles of protesters look like (Palo Alto to Sunnyvale along El Camino Real). There was a lot more energy there than at Trump's big boy tank parade! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4coK...

Every media story today about Israel & Iran should highlight this situation came about because Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Obama-negotiated Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018, likely just to stick it to Obama like the man-child Trump is. responsiblestatecraft.org/iran-nuclear...

The Israelis are calling this a "preemptive" strike. Whether you agree or disagree with this attack, these are not - from what we know tonight - "preemptive" strikes. The Israelis are using that word for a reason. Read on. /1

The people listed in this thread make up the worst possible combination of individuals to be advising on vaccines. Having a committee of kindergarteners would be better. To anyone thinking of having kids in 2026 or beyond, be prepared to travel out of the country for their routine vaccinations.

anyway CNN is reporting that Pentagon lawyers are defining the RULES OF ENGAGEMENT for the U.S. Marines against civilians in L.A. and at the same time you have Serious Journalists™ defending the suspension of a reporter for calling Stephen Miller a hateful person

When two surgeons marry each other (troubling, but it happens), how do you figure out which one is the better operator? These things are important, we must know!! Thank goodness we have numbers to look at, because numbers never lie. Right? 🚨NEW VIDEO🚨 youtu.be/F6Y_bpE3r5c?...

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

People might miss this if they are only exposed to right wing media. There was no problem in California until Trump, Steve Miller, and ICE director Homan decided to stir shit up. This was deliberate provocation from the start. Hopefully the courts will rule Trump's actions on this to be illegal.

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!

This is insane. As someone who has studied and published on AI, we need more regulation of this technology, not less. Society is not prepared for where AI is going to take us, and Silicon Valley absolutely will prioritize innovation and profit over the common good.

ICE isn't "protecting" anyone. Driving into quiet neighborhoods in masks & riot gear to kidnap hardworking members of our communities isn't making us safer. This is just pretext for enacting a fascist police state. And it's happening in real time. www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/co...

Sharing this tonight for those in LA and for future protesters everywhere

You'd think that the American Gestapo would get the message that California doesn't want them here. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Thank you, @thelancet.com, for not only publishing this work but placing it front and center for all to see. History will look back on this moment and see that your editorial team is made of people of conscience who refuse to be bullied into silence. I wish that weren’t so rare.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Musk and would happily see him deported for lying on his original immigration forms, but for Trump to publicly threaten a businessman with directed retaliation in response to exercising his 1A rights is dictator-level abuse of power. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

One of the best things about Posting is you never know what obscure preoccupations your followers have. There will be a guy who has followed you for years and never said anything but then one day you disparage applesauce and he activates like a sleeper agent and dedicates his life to destroying you

To people who think med schools don't teach anything about nutrition: - All med schools teach nutrition - Nutrition science is messy, and what is known to be true often doesn't conform to the conventional wisdom spread by gurus & influencers abcnews.go.com/Politics/rfk...

No money was actually saved, but at the same time we had truly devastating cuts to scientific research, medicine, and foreign aid. Just reinforces what a tiny fraction of spending those areas always were, with an outsized positive impact.

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

A reminder for no particular reason at all: If you're giving a lecture, it doesn't matter if it's a department-wide grand rounds or a small talk to MS1s, if you're using someone else's figures, they need to be cited. You don't get a pass just b/c the original creator is at the same institution.

It has been estimated that by eliminating programs like USAID and PEPFAR, the Trump administration has effectively killed 300,000 people Over 200,000 of them were children And if Republicans cut Medicaid as they’ve threatened, thousands will die in the US as well We MUST stop these ghouls
