While investigating Nike’s claims about sustainability, I started collecting paystubs from its suppliers. It’s been almost 27 years since Phil Knight acknowledged that Nike products had become synonymous with “slave wages.” I wanted to know what people in Asia earned producing Nike apparel. (thread)

A guy at my local GameStop got 6 of the new Eevee Prismatic collection box. 6. He brought two of his buddies to thwart the 2 per person limit. Great system Pokémon has created. 👍 These people are such greedy aholes.

Tulip mania

Rule of law 2028…put that on a political hat

This is what fascism looks like: Attorney General Bondi threatening judges she claims are not cooperating with Trump immigration policies and saying “we will come after you and we will prosecute you. We will find you.”

I think inflation is just going to come roaring back because of tariffs. In fact it’s already begun. Prices on goods are rising to offset shortages and demand. The stock market pricing in rate cuts in this environment is totally dumb. They might need to raise rates higher. Too low.

Matthew Hiller started making anti-Elon Musk stickers for Teslas after Musk's X takeover. He's made six figures selling them. From @amartinezla.bsky.social and Claire Murashima

I’ll believe the economy sucks when you can find prismatic evolutions in store at msrp because nobody is willing to pay 2x or 3x to some online scalper which comes out to $20 a pack for a pokeball if you’re lucky. Until then it’s just fear and loathing in tariff-land. Not a recession.

Consumers: Things are so bad omg… Also Consumers: Preordered the Switch 2 bundle for $550, planning on getting the iPhone Max 17 for $1499, grabbed tickets for my European summer trip for $2,000, just leaving Starbucks with 3 drinks that cost $27 total….

I’m always highly skeptical of these surveys. People say one thing and do another. Consumer sentiment is more fickle than a plastic bag in the wind.

I’m about ready to move to that uninhabited penguin island. Get away from all these crazy people.

I don’t understand how it’s legal for post office vehicles to both stop on a road and then when you go around them they get back on the road. Absolutely insane being cut off by a mail person. Lawlessness. What am I supposed to do, spend my entire day behind a person delivering mail on a busy road?

I think it's bad when we start arresting judges...

Retailers aren’t going to stock there shelves with products they have to discount -30% back to the original msrp to get them to sell, while eating the tariff cost. They’ll lose money that way. Better to just not stock that product and/or find an alternative. Which means a cheap supplier.

I could definitely see a broad decline in choices people have when going to the store. It will be the cheapest stuff stocked to avoid sticker shock. Consumers are super sensitive to price swings. Even something as simple as coffee costing $5/lb most is going to elicit a nasty reaction.

If you are a retail business & it suddenly costs 10-30% more to import products (on the low end) that means every consumer is going to have to pay that cost plus any additional markup fees. And as a result, the retailer might just accept it’s not worth carrying a product that’s suddenly expensive.

During pandemic, recall there were shortages of products because of supply shocks & demand being too high. It led to all kinds of scalping & price gouging. Inflation spiked to 9%. Tariffs are like a replay of that. Except this time sellers may not stock shelves because the import cost is to much.

High tariffs are ultimately a supply shock and it will be hard for businesses to find the products to sell. Cutting interest rates in this environment would merely increase demand when there is no supply. Making inflation even worse. Simple economics.

Before tariff chaos economists were predicting another rate cut in May/June. Now that is never happening. Genius lol. The guy who wanted lower rates now ensuring that doesn’t happen. Talk about being dumb and unable to connect the dots between inflation and rates.

Not only did tariff strategy not lower rates it’s made the most dovish member cautious against cutting. “A rate cut at either the Federal Reserve’s May or June meeting seems more unlikely Thursday after the most prominent dovish member of the U.S. central bank suggested he was in no hurry to move.”

If Trumps plan was to use tariffs to cause the market decline to bring down interest rates it backfired big time. It didn’t work at all. Causing the market to pump now that he’s backing off tariffs. He just wasted his only leverage. The “deal making” only existed at the panic stage.

Powell would cut rates if the markets tanked and unemployment spiked. Outside that he is never going to cave to political pressure. Would risk the independence of central banks and be super reckless to cut rates with crypto already going parabolic.

If Trump were actually smart he’d want the market to go down. Quickest way to get an interest cut is the SP500 below 5,000. Above that and there’s no way Powell is cutting rates again. He’s got a year left and his legacy is on line. He won’t let inflation get out of control again.

Checking in on the casino 🎰 if the market doesn’t correct, there will probably be a melt-up next. Everyone who sold will buy back higher. Zero chance rates ever get cut in this scenario. Inflation will roar back this summer too ahead of tariffs.

Retail fomo on crypto with recession fears is pretty wild

Bitcoin @ $95,500 but eggs were too expensive lol

If you take anything away from my post, I hope it's this:

People are being too hard on Donald Trump for crying out “Vladimir, stop!” Anybody can forget their safe word.

Happy birthday to the Hubble Space Telescope, launched from the Kennedy Space Center #OTD in 1990. Here's to a remarkable 35 years of imaging the Cosmos. 🧪 🔭 ⚛️ Leave your favorite Hubble images in the replies!

I’ve seen a few decent people promoting this hat/idea & it’s got all the characteristics of a psyop. Distraction, feed conflict & suggest an Anti-Constitutional solution to America’s crisis in government. It also suggests that if it’s ok for Obama to have a 3rd term, it’s ok for Trump. Don’t bite.

Politics is more clear when you remember that the "waste" in "government waste" is the profit that some rich asshole isn't making off labor in the public sector whose only purpose is the common good.

Exclusive: The Pentagon will resume gender-affirming care for transgender service members, according to a memo we obtained.

Newsom: In 2023, Californians contributed $83.1 billion more to the federal government than we received back. And for your viewers: that other state—Texas—took $71.1 billion more than it contributed to the federal government. California: $83 billion, contributor. Texas: taker.

Even Brazil has universal healthcare. Its written into there constitution. What’s wrong with America? That’s what I’d like to know. I don’t get it. Why does every country on earth but us have free access to healthcare. But we’re supposedly the wealthiest society? That’s backwards.

The fact Dems can’t win every election on saying they’ll make universal healthcare a reality is political malpractice at its finest. And also why nobody wants to support the party beyond “lesser of two evils” theory. Its such a popular issue. Making healthcare free. But they resist it like death.

Countries without Universal Healthcare: United States of America Countries with Universal Healthcare: Canada Brazil Australia England France Germany Spain Israel Italy Norway Sweden Switzerland Japan Iceland New Zealand Denmark Austria Finland

Why Dems lose elections in a nutshell: What they should say: We will pass single-payer universal healthcare on day 1 What they end up saying: In an ideal world, we’d have universal healthcare, but we can’t do it. So instead let’s focus on something else entirely. Unaffordable premium insurance.

Dems should take note. You can just say things in jest and nobody cares if it actually happens. Anyone gullible immediately falls for the trick.

That’s what really pisses me off about the immigration backlash. Almost all these immigrants who come here are hard workers. They actually have jobs. It’s the people born here who are lazy. So lazy they’ll make a career out of buying & selling stuff online way above msrp. Sad truth.

Nothing I hate more than internet reseller culture. The sneakerheads, the card scalpers, Switch 2 hoarders, these people are a drain on society. They contribute nothing. If I were king I’d be sending them to do labor in El Salvador. It’s a criminal organization. Price gouging ordinary citizens.

I really hate card scalpers. Hovering over the card section looking for Prismatic. Like bro, it’s not there. Why don’t you get a real job and stop taking advantage of shortages. Ahole.

Is today the most depressing Friday or what ugh

Noteworthy thing about this era of politics is there’s very little class consciousness. We had rising real wages, especially at the lower end, but most saw themselves as consumers, not workers. Maybe some petit bourgeoisie Trumpists v. PMC stuff, but not a broader workers v. owners or 99% v. 1%.

Art of the deal = create market panic, tell all your closest billionaire friends to buy the dip, say you were joking about tariffs 3 weeks later. Haha

I would give the President the same advice that I give my mates who are single: If Xi won't call and you want to shoot your shot, it's time to pick up the phone.
