Oh look, just what we need: even higher medical costs

As unconstitutional as it is unsurprising

Odd how much of what's going on in US is captured by Tom Petty song titles: stocks: Free Fallin tourism/immigration: Don't Come Around Here No More tariffs: Runnin' Down a Dream court orders: I Won't Back Down science: You Wreck Me foreign policy: Breakdown cabinet picks: Tweeter and the Monkey Man

More than during the 2008 financial crisis. More than during the 2020 COVID shock.

EU 2024 electricity generation: 49% renewable energy 24% nuclear Only 28% fossil fuel 👍

Another term for “homegrown criminals” would be citizens. He’s asking Bukele to build prisons so he can ship American citizens to El Salvador. And don’t forget just how expansive Trump’s concept of criminality is. It includes pretty much anyone who offends him.

Holy shit. Video posted by President Bukele’s team on X shows the moments before his press conference with Trump in which Trump tells him: “We want to do homegrown criminals next. You gotta build about five more places.” (h/t @titonka.bsky.social @michelekelemen.bsky.social)

I had been doubtful that we were going to have a "this is the crisis moment" with Trump, as opposed to "everything about this is a destructive catastrophe." But the Abrego Garcia case is the crisis moment. 1/

"I know I’m splitting hairs. When higher education is outlawed and your local post office is sold to a used car dealer, most people aren’t worried about naming conventions. But rules are rules dammit."

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

This funny 'American Pie' parody bites hard — from a comedy show that went out a few days ago in the UK

Interesting that nobody is seriously considering suing Trump for treating the successful economy he’s busy trashing as an “emergency” justifying taxation without representation. The tariff laws and the National Emergencies Act would be unconstitutional if they really authorized this form of tyranny.

We are speedrunning the Declaration of Independence, folks.

We are all Trump’s Taj Mahal now.

The Trump regime has put a 10% tariff on the Heard Island and McDonald which is inhabited only by Penguins. The majestic Penguin has become the first nonhuman in history to enter a trade war with the United States.

Great thread by Senator Chris Murphy explaining how Trump’s extreme tariffs are best understood not as economic policy but as a weapon to enforce loyalty, undermine democracy and solidify autocratic power

NEW DATA: Survey shows that heat pump owners are extremely satisfied. Nine out of ten property owners in Germany are (very) satisfied with their heat pump. Survey commissioned by Vaillant known in particular for their gas boilers. www.vaillant-group.com/news-stories...

From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement. Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”

Next level — in the UK even the extreme right doesn’t like Musk

Energy transitions are possible. The UK's phase out of coal is testament to this.

If you need a little break from doomscrolling, here’s a bit of good news: UK GHG emissions in 2024 were the lowest in more than 150 years(!!) UK coal use lowest in more than 450 years(!!!)

"Homo sapiens learned to cooperate with one other, extending our compassion to people outside our immediate tribes. With a shared sense of purpose, we were able to build villages, towns, and eventually nations. And now we’ve reached the next stage of human evolution, where compassion is for cucks."

Now that’s an S-curve! Norway has reached an astonishing battery electric vehicle share of sales of 88% over the last 12 months. Out of the remaining 12% of vehicles 4% are PHEV and 10% ICE (of which 7% are HEV). HT @leraffl.bsky.social
