I am so pleased to announce a Palestinian Studies cluster hire at @huntercollege.bsky.social - we are hiring one person in the arts and another in the social sciences. This is an incredible source of pride for me as a faculty member & one of the many reasons that I feel so lucky to work here 1/

just to make sure: are there any carceral historians (or historians doing police, crime, incarceration-related topics) still looking to join a panel submission for Urban History Association?

Submissions open today for the Keeley Schenwar Memorial Essay Prize. This prize uplifts the work of writers who are currently & formerly incarcerated. truthout.org/articles/kee... Spread the word! The prize honors my sister, who died five years ago after many years in and out of incarceration. 💔

love to see an article that captures that “the sheriff’s office is lying to me” feeling

I'm very proud of an article I recently had published in Social Problems (one of my faves!!) that explores how people charged with felonies are conditioned into the treatment they should expect upon adjudication. academic.oup.com/socpro/advan...

Everyone concerned about data loss right now should learn about the End of Term Web Archive, which I believe has been working on preserving federal websites for the past 8 months. The dataset you fear has been lost may well be here Just an incredible project. Thank you to everyone involved

With talk of ICE doing"collateral arrests," I've been thinking of how this is also true for broader criminal justice. When a person is in jail/prison, on electronic monitoring/parole, family/friends/neighbors can also end up in more contact with police, increasing chances of surveillance & arrest.

Good morning go birds say it back

I've been thinking a lot about uncertainty. Some studies show people experience more stress when there is an uncertain POSSIBILITY of pain, than when there is CERTAIN predictable pain. This week there were false alarms about ICE agents & anxiety was high. Maybe this is obvious, but.. (1/)
