BREAKING NEWS! Walk with Erin will be postponed until next Saturday (March 8), because I’ve been asked to speak at Harvard Saturday. Not doing a keynote; just a workshop, but still… It’s Harvard! Join us for the walk next Saturday!

As a Jesus-follower, I am struggling with so many Christians who appear to believe “the ends justify the means.” Aren’t “the means” everything? Feels like we’re missing the plot.

This is your reminder, especially in the midst of the chaos, to do all you can to take care of yourself. You cannot care for others if you haven’t invested in yourself. Today - OrangeTheory to start the day, sushi with mom, lunch n learn about Ramadan with Khurshida.

Had mtg at a restaurant and just “happened” to run into a friend I haven’t seen for months (who had, apparently, just spoken my name). Delivered keynote on resilience at the Seventh Day Adventist conference hosted by my dear friend, Bill. ❤️ to my friend who came to hear me on her lunch break.

What do I do when I’m anxious? I run. Today in Orange Theory Tread 50, I didn’t run super fast, but I also did not stop once. It was a solid 47:16 of running. What are you doing to get/stay strong?

I had a conversation with a teacher earlier today about whether or not it’s worth being on social media. Found this earlier on Facebook during one of the few times I visited there. This is exactly why I’m here. #lovematters

You are bigger than any individual box anyone could use to identify you. Embrace all the pieces that make you who you are. You. Are. Enough.

It’s Sunday. It’s Project Kindness Gathering Day. We meet on zoom at 2 PST. Join us for your weekly dose of kindness! #projectkindness

Every American should read this first-person article about what is happening in a critical department in DC. From what I can tell from other pieces, this experience matches those of most who work in federal government. We owe our civil servants better.

I follow Jacob Ward on TikTok. Most of his posts are related to his area of expertise, the tech industry. However, in light of current conversations about DEI, his thoughts about bias and race are powerful and thought-provoking. theripcurrent.substack.com/p/its-racism...

I went to my Congressman's local office today. First off, they were surprised that I was there. They said they had been getting phone calls, but I was the first walk-in. That said, the phones were not ringing off the hook. If the DC phone lines are busy, try calling the local office.

Join us at 2 PST today (Sunday) for our #projectkindness gathering. Come share stories of kindness. Inspire. Be inspired.

Today we walked in solidarity – Waite, Black, Asian, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, agnostic, queer, straight, young to old. Our diversity is our superpower! I will continue to shout this from the mountain tops! We need ALL OF US to flourish to make this nation the best it can be!

I may have run against Reykdal for State Supt, but I have ALWAYS wanted ALL our Ss to succeed. I want to see him lead well. His response to the most recent executive action is on point. Blue states, like WA, are funding so many red states w/our tax dollars. May he have courage to stay course!

Stay grounded. Focus on the things that are in your locus of control. Stay in community. Do NOT be distracted by the political theater!

The executive order that froze federal grants + loans has impacted people close to me. One of my Ss is served by Medicaid (whose portal was down all day in her state). Another friend lost access to the grant she worked 3 yrs to get that will fund a project due to begin next week. We’re 8 days in…

I try to be open-minded and listen to many perspectives. Podcasts are a tool to help me step outside the echo chamber that can be social media. Listening to this podcast was confirmation that many leaders are too far removed from “the people”. Additionally, I’m convinced greed will destroy us.

Let’s be real about the impact of recent decisions at the national level and numerous corporate headquarters. It takes absolutely zero courage to cave to false narratives. It will require the courage of many of us to push for what is good for ALL of us.

Who has benefitted most from DEI initiatives? White women. DEI is not just about serving Black people and LGBTQIA+. DEI is about ensuring EVERYONE has access. DEI is really good for business, b/c it provides access to more communities. Disappointed but not surprised. www.reuters.com/business/ret...

I had the opportunity to speak with Grandview high school students today about the power of language. “WordsMatter”: our words can either heal and lift, or they can destroy and create unsafe environments. Here are some strategies for educators about how to address slurs in hallways. #languagematters

A message I shared today with some high school administrators about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our diversity is our superpower as a nation. I absolutely believe it! We don’t lose by acknowledging our differences. We win!

Today we spread kindness! We honored the legacy of #drmartinlutherkingjr. We told stories and painted rocks. We ate food and made new friends. The world is a better place for us having been in it today. #projectkindness

Saying good-bye to my mother-in-law has been both heartbreaking and beautiful. The memorial today was such a great reminder that we take nothing with us when we die, but we have the opportunity to leave behind a beautiful legacy. She did that. Her love and kindness transformed lives.

Are you needing some inspiration? Are you needing ideas for ways you can be an inspiration for others? Join us on Zoom tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 PM PST for our #projectkindness gathering.

Join us tomorrow for a Walk and the opening of the Cafe! Get some exercise. Make a new friend. Eat some great food. Be inspired to get engaged.

Join the #projectkindness team for our kick-off event ON MLK JR Day. Let’s elebrate the life of someone who has inspired me since I was a child. There will be a walk, great food, interactive activities, speakers. Join us for the day or just a couple hours. Let’s start the year investing in kindness.

It’s been a rough and beautiful week. We were all together on Christmas. My mother-in-law went home to be with Jesus the day after. Today our youngest returned to CA. Hubby and I drank boba tea, ate moose munch popcorn and watched movies, attempting to distract from our sorrows. Life goes on. #grief

Today we lost the matriarch of my husband’s family after almost 3 months in hospice. She lived with us for 6 yrs when our kids were small. She invested deeply in family and friends. People from the nursing home said she was the kindest resident they’ve ever had. I hope to leave that kind of legacy.

Check out the location where we were supposed to have a retreat yesterday (in University Place, WA, near Tacoma). WILD! Fortunately, one of our teammates had a home available and no one was hurt.

Are you an educator? Are you a parent? Are you curious about AI and it’s role in public life and public schools? Join the Equity Fishbowl tonight on Zoom from 6:00 - 7:00 PM PST for a special conversation with my friend, David Yunger. Send me a message for the link.

I love the work I get to do in so many different places. Thank you to the City of Olympia for the opportunity to share about my book. Appreciative of the staff who showed up for two sessions to talk about belonging and humanizing our interactions.

Hubby and I began the day doing the thing we met doing - working out. We went to #orangetheory for a workout and then headed north to visit my mother-in-law who’s been in hospice for over a month. I’m grateful for my family - not just today but every day, even when it’s complicated.

If you could tell your teen self anything, what would you say? What message do you wish you had heard?

I wrote a poem weeks after I lost my race for State Superintendent in 2016. I lost my statewide race by less than 1%. Sad, but more concerning were other outcomes. Much of the poem is as relevant today as it was in 2016.
