Really looking forward to this event in June! Is there a better day than Rosenmontag to share a CfA for Cologne?

@jeannetteoho.bsky.social und ich bereiten uns auf die nächste @ddgc.bsky.social Lesegruppe vor und freuen uns, mit wunderbaren Leuten diese zwei wichtigen Bücher zu besprechen 🌈🌈

Trump’s new exec order making English the only official language of the US—for the first time in its history—is lost in the barrage of other news. Its premise is a lie: the US constitution’s ratification depended on the doc’s translation into German and Dutch

Universities and colleges across the US and Canada have long practiced what this executive order calls for. It is tempting to view the order as the thing bad people do, but what do we do with the fact that your institution maintains that same logic?

How can scholarly associations be trusted to do VITAL work to support scholars when the academy is being actively dismantled when they do this? The MLA proved it can't. And now the ACSA. The others will follow suit. These organizations are rotten structures and those tending to them false comrades.

Bosnians remember what the EU chairman Lord David Owen told them when their country was being invaded and dismembered in 1992: "Don't — don't — don't — Don't live under this dream that the West will come in and sort this problem out. Don't dream dreams." It was always on camera.

We are excited to announce our third lecture in our 2025 Spring Colloquia! @jonahgarde.bsky.social will give a lecture titled: "Fantasies of Eldorado: Germany's Mythical Place in the Trans* Historical Imaginary." Happening on March 11 at 12:30 PST. In person and on Zoom! 🔗in bio! See y'all there

New issue of German Studies Review has a diminutive special section I edited, “Remediating the Third Reich,” with fantastic essays by Mary Hennessy (on the 1943 film GROßSTADTMELODIE) and Brook Henkel (on Fassbinder’s WORLD ON A WIRE) muse.jhu.edu/issue/54291

My comrade and drag mom @kyfrack.bsky.social and I are hosting a workshop on queer media theory at the Auerbach Institute of the University of Cologne this summer. Reach out if you are interested in participating. Glad to brainstorm with you. 🌈

ahh, a fluff piece about humanities education at my alma mater about how it respects students and we all should do what they do but the article does not mention how not long ago the institution had students arrested, put a huge fence around the uni sacred grounds, fired instructors ...

Jeannette and I are convening a reading group on two remarkable texts that will help us anticipate some of the discussions during the 2025 DDGC conference on solidarity/interdependence. If you are around, join us!

Check out the DDGC Queer and Trans German Studies Research Cooperative (aka the Pink Pony Club). The conveners are @jonahgarde.bsky.social and @ervinmalakaj.bsky.social. Reach out to them if you would like to join and be added to the email list for the group. www.ddgccollective.org/ddgc-queer-a...

Let me know if you want to participate!

Check out the DDGC Critical Food Studies Research Collectives. The co-op is convened by Bradley Boovy, @mariakatze.bsky.social, and @beverlyweber.bsky.social. Contact the conveners to get on the email list and to get involved with the group. www.ddgccollective.org/ddgc-critica...

In some organizing collectives I'm part of there has been a rise in behaviour policing of others who allegedly are not political enough, don't do politics in a certain way, who don't say enough or do it right. It's exhausting. People are literally gathered and some bro is like, "you are not here."

confirmed for myself last evening that language courses are sites of major potential for social transformation: they position those in the class to learn how to negotiate and renegotiate their relationship to others; they are a prompt for good relations, an invitation to build something with others

Might I be connected to someone on here who knows their way around the literary and intellectual history (broadly conceived) of Prizren, Kosovo? With that I mean, scholars, intellectuals, writers, performers, artists either born there or with some intimate connection to the city.
