🚨Final call to apply for the ESA Graduate Trainee Programme!

🤝 Partnering with @icrc.org to combine ESA's space expertise and tech with the Red Cross' humanitarian reach. By integrating satellite and ground data sources, we'll provide actionable information to aid workers in areas affected by disasters and conflicts worldwide. Read more 👉 bit.ly/4gU2tGO

☄️ 🔭 The impact probability of asteroid 2024 YR4 has dropped from 2.8% to 0.16%. Thanks to new observations, Earth is now at the edge of our shrinking ‘uncertainty window.’ If this trend continues, the risk may soon reach 0%.

We are kicking off our Bluesky account: follow us for news on @esa.int's launches, projects and developments in space transportation. Updates on the Vega and Ariane rockets 🚀, Space Rider and more.

🌍🛰️ Almost 40% of glaciers in Central Europe were lost between 2000 and 2023. A new study, using data from various satellite observations -including our CryoSat mission- reveals alarming insights about the declining rate of glaciers. Read the full study🔗 esa.int/Applications...

The probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 might impact Earth in 2032 has risen to 2.8%. This means that it has surpassed the chance of impact briefly held by the much larger asteroid Apophis back in 2004. @esaoperations.esa.int ☄️🔭

A Falcon 9 upper stage (#62878), which was launched on 1 February 2025, reentered the atmosphere over Europe at approximately 04:46 CET this morning. Video credit: Ludi, taken from Leipzig Central Railway Station, Germany, and used with permission

#Einstein Probe captured the X-ray flash from a very odd celestial couple. The pair consists of a hot star, more than 10 times larger than our Sun & a small compact white dwarf, with a mass similar to our star. Find out more 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭🧪 #extragalactic #highenergyastro

ESA mission control will guide the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter through a close encounter with Venus tonight. The gravity assist manouevre will 'tilt' the spacecraft's orbit around the Sun and grant it a unique view of our star's enigmatic polar regions. 🕵️‍♀️ ☀️ www.esa.int/Enabling_Sup...

🌕🛰️ With 400+ lunar missions launching in the next 20 years, reliable communication and navigation services will be essential. Discover how our Moonlight programme will support these missions by enabling autonomous landings and high-speed data sharing between Earth and Moon 👉 bit.ly/41hDmco

Say cheese! 📸 Proba-3’s Occulter spacecraft took a first peek at its twin spacecraft, the Coronagraph, in another exciting milestone of this eclipse-making mission. Take a look at the images here 👉 blogs.esa.int/proba-3/2025...

Spot the imposter 💥🔭 The sparkling spiral galaxy gracing this NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image is UGC 5460. In this image, there is also a far closer object: a star just 577 light-years away in our own galaxy. Can you spot it? 🔗 esahubble.org/images/potw2...

❤️🌍 For Valentine’s Day, the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission picks out a heart in the landscape north of Mount St Helens in USA. The heart-shaped feature surrounded by snow at the centre of the image is Spirit Lake, a popular tourist destination for many years until the volcano erupted in 1980.

Happy Valentine's Day! 💞 🔭🌍 Tired of the same old cards? We've got you covered ⬇️

New contract with @thalesaleniaspace.bsky.social kicks off HydRON's next phase: an optical network linking LEO & GEO satellites with ground stations via laser communications. The system will process data at higher rates while reducing cost per bit. Launch set for 2028 🚀 www.esa.int/Applications...

🔴 LIVE NOW: Making space exploration accessible enters a new phase. 📺 Watch the 'Fly!' feasibility study press briefing: www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... 👨‍🚀 @esa.int astronaut reserve member John McFall will discuss the way ahead with Daniel Neuenschwander, director of @esaexploration.esa.int.

Continuing our #ICYMI series on @bsky.app, we bring you the largest photomosaic ever assembled from NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope observations. It is a panoramic view of our neighbouring #Andromeda galaxy, located 2.5 million light-years away. Access full res 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭🧪

🔭 The Universe is a dusty place. This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope picture shows swirling clouds of gas and dust near the Tarantula Nebula, the most productive star-forming region in the nearby Universe, home to the most massive stars known.

Astronomers will turn the James Webb Space Telescope towards asteroid 2024 YR4 next month. The most powerful telescope ever launched into space will provide a more accurate estimate of the size of the asteroid, which has a very small chance of impacting Earth in 2032. blogs.esa.int/rocketscienc...

Our dark Universe detective 🕵️ Euclid has discovered a stunning Einstein ring! 💍 It surrounds galaxy NGC 6505, which is acting as a gravitational lens, bending light from a distant galaxy behind it. Why is this rare phenomenon so useful for scientists? 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭🧪 #cosmology

☄️ We aren’t just waiting for an asteroid to strike. We are taking active measures to help Earth defend itself against a potential impact. Which is why we are endorsing the the United Nations' designation of 2029 as the International Year of Asteroid Awareness and Planetary Defence.

For astronaut radiation protection, just add water! 💧 High-energy particles dart through space in all directions. Ghent University team are stopping them using hydrogel as radiation shield – this material, found in nappies or contact lenses, can soak up a lot of water 👉 www.esa.int/Enabling_Sup...
