EU member states keep improving LULUCF reporting. Compared to UNFCCC reporting 2016-2018 e.g. Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Romania and Spain report markedly imporved land sink. LULUCF is getting significantly worse in e.g. Austria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Lithuania and Sweden.

Important update paper from @glenpeters.bsky.social and others, showing rate of warming now .27ºC a decade. essd.copernicus.org/articles/17/...

Today the Norwegian government has approved the plan for the Northern Lights subsea CO₂ storage facility to be expanded from 1.5 MtCO₂/yr to 5 Mt/yr. The news also mentioned an agreement with Stockholm Exergi to receive up to 0.9 Mt/yr from bioenergy heat and power.

Was im 2. Öst Sachstandsbericht von steht. #AAR2 www.diepresse.com/19802678

Hallitusohjelman tavoiteuran mukaan julkisyhteisöjen velan piti olla vuonna 2029 noin 77 %/BKT, mutta nyt VM ennustaa vuoden 2029 velkasuhteeksi 90,4 prosenttiin. Tavoite on siis ylittymässä 13 %/BKT, eli yli 40 miljardilla eurolla.

Detailed energy data for Norway in 2024 were released this morning. No surprise that the total use of energy in road transport continues to decline, as electric vehicles are more efficient than their ICE equivalents. robbieandrew.github.io/EV/

OK, that's a little odd. Indonesia's official reporting to the UNFCCC shows a complete collapse in the use of biomass in households. The data show 1545 PJ biomass combusted by households in 2017 and only 136 PJ in 2018.

Painting everything about solar and wind as inherently good is honestly very boring and can also be very wrong

EU 27 spent in 2023 about EUR 61 000 million for direct fossil fuel subsidies (money not tax breaks etc.). Of this Germany spent over third or 25 000 million, Poland 11 000 million and France 6 000 million. source op.europa.eu/en/publicati...

The Indian government has stepped up geofencing of its websites in the last month. This prevents access from outside of the country. Sites like those of Grid-India, the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange), and the Bureau of Mines have all been geofenced recently.

Have Chinese fossil CO2 emissions peaked? That seems to be the consensus amongst experts. I am far more cautious. It would be quite the turn around if China peaked in 2024 (& declined thereafter). This figure goes to 2023, but electricity emissions are still sky rocketing. 1/

+NEW DATA+ I spent a few months filing FOIs with British International Investment, a UK government-owned, aid-funded company that supports development in Africa and south Asia. This revealed fossil-fuel projects worth nearly $700m on BII’s books – about 6% of its assets in 2023 ➡️ buff.ly/4OOzhf1

Cities have spent millions on hydrogen buses so plagued with faults that many vehicles have been left trapped in depots for months at a time. Many of these trials have hit the same stumbling blocks, including high costs and a lack of reliable hydrogen supply. inews.co.uk/news/million...

The 7 billion tonne gap! Climate science & national emissions reporting use different definitions & methods to estimate anthropogenic land-based carbon removals. This is no small issue, but what can we do about it? www.nature.com/articles/s41... (sorry, shareable open link not yet published). 1/

Effectively a full repeal of the largest climate bill in history. There’s no strategy for America’s future. We all get sicker and pay more in energy bills and suffer climate disasters, while some rich folks pay less in taxes. That’s it. Disgraceful.

The House Republican's budget bill is starting to drop. It extends trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy while effectively crippling US manufacturing & energy industries and raising energy costs. It's effectively full repeal of the IRA. Here's tax portion waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/u... 🔌💡

According to large Finnish daily [email protected] one of the problems why EU is economically struggling is Germany and there they blame high electricity cost. In 2024 German electricity cost much more than in e.g. Finland or France even though in 2015 the prices were equal./1

In Germany electricity price is negative -250 €/MWh. Production over 60 GW, usage 49 GW, solar produces 48 GW. Still coal an NG combi on to keep network stable.
