For reference: Procedural generation is shuffling a deck and dealing from it. genAI is feeding every card deck you can find, including ones not for the game, into a wood chipper, slapping a handful of the bits on some glue, and pretending its a playable hand.

Saw a gaming hot take that said blank slate protags are “lazy and boring”. They may be boring but they are about as far from lazy as a development choice can get. Every aspect of the protag is significantly more complicated/expensive when there’s a wide range of options.
