I don’t think a better headline could have been written about what happened yesterday. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

“I was just following orders” was not a defense at Nuremberg. And it won’t be a defense in the future here.

No point in sugarcoating the truth open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

They didn’t just send Abrego Garcia “back to El Salvador”, they sent him to a fucking torture prison. They didn’t send him “back to where he was from.” They sent him to his death. They cannot prove he was a “terrorist”. They took him by “mistake.” And they do not fucking care.

This from @anneapplebaum.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Curious as to what John Roberts is thinking today. Wonder if he even cares.

Courage is contagious in the best possible way. 👏 Harvard 👏 Cornell 👏 MIT Keep going! Solidarity!

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

🚀🚀

We traded Europe for a guy that builds concentration camps for profit.

Folks, we are in a full-blown constitutional crisis.

We're in The Bad Place, folks. The existence of an overseas gulag to which you - yes, you personally - can be sent with no recourse marks the end of a whole period of American history. There's no going back after this. Even if these guys are defeated, the new order will have to look much different.

Now the question is what if anything the courts (including SCOTUS) will do next.

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.

After the attack on Shapiro’s residence, I feel like it’s important to remind people how easy it is for people to become irrevocably radicalized online. Right wing media (both “new” and legacy) is using the same tactics we see groups like Al-Qaeda use to recruit.

The videos showing the El Salvador prisoners makes me so sick. I can’t watch the footage. To know that the administration puts them out because Trump’s base enjoys the sadism is all we need to know. They are sick and depraved and vile people.

Happy Monday. What fresh hell awaits this week?

Saying it again. If I was Judge Xinis, I’d be holding Trump officials in jail in contempt of court until he is brought home to his family.

HARD SAME. I’ve been having visions of it for weeks.

@gregcasar.bsky.social: "Elon Musk gets $8 million a day in federal government contracts and subsidies. $65 a day is how much your average senior gets on Social Security just to barely survive on after working their entire life."

Trump and his Attorney General Pam Bondi claim that vandalizing a Tesla is domestic terrorism, but an arsonist setting fire to the Pennsylvania governor's residence gets no response. Surprise, surprise.

Trumpism is like climate change: it's already here, it has done irreparable damage, and even if we take action now we'll be dealing with it's impact for the rest of our lives.

We haven’t forgotten.

Chasten and I are relieved that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe. While we wait to learn more, this much is clear: the targeting of a public official and his family - especially a prominent Jewish official on a major Jewish holiday - is unconscionable and has no place in our country.

This is in direct violation of a court order or two.

We are worse than North Korea at this point.

This already the worst Presidency in US history by light years and it’s been 2 1/2 months.

If I was the judge, I'd be holding Pam Bondi and Stephen Miller in contempt of court in jail for every day until Kilmar Garcia was returned to the United States. Good for the goose.

From the 2024 presidential immunity oral arguments: "But the liberal justices voiced concern that by offering presidents a shield from prosecution, the court could turn the Oval Office into a “seat of criminality,” as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson described it."

Historian here posting for no reason at all. U.S. Constitution, Article II Section 4: "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

If we're going to deport criminals, start with Donald Trump.

The Senate needs to shut SAVE the fuck down.

Never. Forget. Never. Forgive. ✨

I can’t imagine the kind of monster you would be to deny children of a dead parent their Social Security survivor benefits. The depths of this administration‘s depravity is immeasurable. And so is every single one of their sycophants. Pure evil.
