My lovely mum Judith Doram died suddenly last Friday. Currently no words. Best mum in the world.

Never a good time to break a finger, but, you know, this week its had its advantages. 😉

Theologians trying to determine if an action is God's judgement or God's trial:

In the most ill-timed lectionary readings imaginable, this week's texts are all about fire. What does it mean that Jesus baptizes with fire? Probably not what you learned in Sunday school. open.substack.com/pub/dianabut...

Know I’m late to the party but OH. MY. GOODNESS. ❤️🔥

Today Christians celebrate the Epiphany, when the three wise men visited the Baby Jesus. You can tell they were wise because they knew to wait until after Christmas to travel...

My goodness, the bleakness of the flat without the tree and lights on a sleety day in Scotland. Thank goodness for books!

York you beauty

@drfrancisyoung.bsky.social I assume this is your reason for being in Glasgow and bot Edinburgh?!

Shout out to the priest who called Jesus an “eager beaver” this morning. Beats my off the cuff description of Gabriel as the GOAT of all angels.

Oh St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Edinburgh choir and organist you beauties. So caught up in the music almost forgot how to swing the incense at the Gospel.

Happy Christmas #clergymaltclub frankly too tired to take a picture of a drink, but the smell of incense will waft me to my sleep.

Round two of 9LCs coming up. Let’s see if I can remember what to do with my candle this time round.

#9LC

December 1914, the first unit of Elsie Inglis' Scottish Women's Hospitals to leave from Edinburgh for Serbia. 1500 women served in this remarkable all-female endeavour providing medical & surgical care to sick & wounded soldiers, civilians & refugees archiveandlibrary.rcsed.ac.uk/special-coll...?

Today seems a good day to remind y'all of the story of Clementina MacDonald who got arrested for going down the High Street in Edinburgh for wearing the uniform of the Black Watch. They told her to 'stick to petticoats'. 1903. Go on yerself, Clementina.

Lots of thanks to everyone who took part!

As Christmas nears, here's a charming little nativity depicted on the Exultet Roll in Latin MS 2 of the John Ryland Library, Manchester. Left sits Joseph, and right the baby is washed in a little cup. We can also see the bees at work below. Interestingly, script is not upside down as in other cases.

@oldparishcors.bsky.social Thanks for coming along and singing gustily!

Wife: So you went to the party all by yourself? Me: Yes Wife: And you stayed three whole hours? Me: Yes Wife: Even though I wasn’t there to make you stay? Me: Yes Wife: And now you don’t want to talk to other people until? Me: March-ish
