‘Photography is therapy for me’: Martin Parr on humour, holidaying and life behind the lens

So Europe turned out not to be the threat to our way of life. Nor Islam or those souls made desperate and dispossessed by war and crisis. The threat turned out to be a Russian-American empire

The tree was there first.

Did you catch @animalaid.bsky.social’s brilliant new advert on Channel 4 last night ? If they could tell you , would you listen ? Support a dairy-free future at compassion.animalaid.org.uk

Good to be back in LA

Birthday celebration with dear Steve @stevehacketthq.bsky.social

Depressing to see our isolated and increasingly desperate country held to ransom.

I am a little bored with the 'What About Brexit?' bombardment tbh but you really can't talk about the UK's "deep economic scars" without bloody mentioning it. Unless you're the BBC, apparently. Its negative impact is not an opinion, it's counting.

At long last: a statement of the blindingly obvious. Boris-Frost-Farage-Badenoch etc have damaged the UK badly. “In one of the clearest statements by a senior government minister on Brexit, Reeves answered yes when asked if she was clear that leaving the EU had damaged the UK’s financial position”.

There are some issues - like, say, the death penalty - where I can see the wisdom in politicians ignoring public sentiment. I see no wisdom whatsoever in Starmer ignoring common sense opinion on a common sense issue such as this.

"We need closer ties with the EU and now they are letting us know the door is ajar. All we have to do is push it open. And yet we cannot even find the strength to do it” www.theneweuropean.co.uk/why-are-we-s...

A group of more than 40 environmental, health, dietary and animal protection organisations have sent a letter to the Government asking to stop a campaign promoting meat and dairy being run by a government-sponsored agency this January. ✉️ #uknews #uk #ukgov #meat #dairy

William Keegan in today’s Observer telling it like it is.

Where is this ? No prizes I’m afraid.

I’m happy. This has opened close to my home. #vegan #love #kindness Tofu Vegan has arrived in Gloucester Road London.

One of the few seriously enriched by Brexit.

Another Brexit ‘win’ thanks to Nigel Farage: the UK now has a critical skills shortage www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

"What is becoming clear is that the likes of Nigel Farage seem to have dispensed with the illusion that Brexit was about political independence." Indeed. So what is left? Brexit damaged the economy, increased immigration & now it seems they only wanted sovereignty for "The Sovereign Individual".

I’d like to see media studies made compulsory in schools. This should translate going forward in developing a healthy questioning cynicism about what appears online, on air and in print. The next generation needs to get wise to the rich men who seek to capitalise on gullibility and ignorance.

And no question of Labour even questioning the most hardline Tory ideology imposed in our lifetime.

A newspaper seeking free rein to whip up hatred. A victim of a coordinated press hate campaign himself, Starmer mustn’t give into this. (Sunday Telegraph, needless to say).

Green light for 2025

I seem to have upset the Nigel Farage fan club - so let me be clear. This man sows hate, lies and division. He is a grifter and a conman. He does not represent the vast majority of Britons. Repost if you agree P.s. multiculturalism is great.

Self portrait with a horse or two

Thousands have signed @chrisgpackham.bsky.social's petition to ban fossil fuel ads - it's clear there's really strong public feeling on this. I've just written to Angela Rayner to call on the govt to strengthen laws on advertising - looking forward to receiving a reply.

Not missing Blighty. Without Brexit I wouldn’t be going back.

I like shadows.

Where am I ?

I miss real journalism which is why I support @bylinetimes.bsky.social @yorksbylines.bsky.social

Can anyone guess where this is ?

Starmer’s position on Brexit becoming increasingly laughable: ‘the shortage of builders had been partially plugged in recent decades with workers from the EU - a recruitment pool which has dried up after freedom of movement ended as a result of Brexit.’ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Two things I’d suggest Starmer do. 1. Reverse Brexit. 2. Take a moral view about Gaza, arms sales and RAF surveillance missions. The first will transform the economy and the second will make us feel better about ourselves. And at these levels, what has he to lose?
