After 50 hours I solved the second layer to Blue Prince. I think I'm going to call it here. There are more layers, but I looked up a clue and stuff really starts to get complicated from here on. Still, it's one of the best puzzle games I've ever played and almost certainly my GOTY.

I used to go to the movie theatre often, but I think I’m just about done with it. Today there were multiple people using their phones, talking, and the theatre was freezing cold. They also show you several ads before the trailers and then a bonus ad after… and the tickets were $25!

I still love Mastodon’s decentralized model, but it’s crazy to me that after so many years it gets basic things wrong like not showing you all the replies to a post unless you click over to the original server and having incorrect counts all the time. These have been open issues since 2016!

I had a lot of thoughts about how my game would be received before I released it and they were all wrong! I think it’s impossible to be objective about something you’re so close to.

Blue Prince is arguably at its most frustrating in the first couple hours, which I think explains the lower Steam reviews (80% positive) than critic reviews (GOTY). You have to let go of the urge inside you to laser focus on one thing and go with the flow.

The hint system in Roottrees has been a great success. If you are designing a game and don’t include one, you’re not stopping players from asking for hints. You’re just making them google instead.

A lot of people who were suggesting Roottrees was GOTY material have moved on to Blue Prince and honestly? It deserves it! I've been playing it and the game is a masterpiece. I've been thinking about it constantly since I started.

I recently applied for a Switch developer kit. In my application I pointed out all the positive coverage Roottrees got, including our 87 on Metacritic and overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. They denied my application today, with no reason given!

I’m seeing a lot of negative reviews on games along the lines of “this isn’t exactly what I wanted, even though it was exactly what was promised”. I can’t overstate how much more joy you will have if you allow art to unfurl in front of you, instead of demanding it be what you imagine you want.
