Proud of the ski community, which came out swinging in Vermont. Newsweek should be advised, however, that a Jerry isn’t the worst person on the slopes (a never-ever isn’t necessarily a Jerry for example) but someone who’s bad AND a jackass.

“Meet me in the dome at 2am.” You’ve got to read this great piece in which Sharon White reminisces about being a DJ at the Saint in the early 80s: daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2013/02/shar...

The United States is regressing to the ages of feudal lords (and edgelords) with the rich and mighty ruling the rest of us however they want with no fear of retribution, a population divided by superstitions, and sages and clerics watching impotently.

We have kind of two mayoral races going on right now. One is a bunch of earnest left of center wonks putting out policy papers and the other one is two guys doing an Alien vs. Predator thing

It feels like a third of “A Complete Unknown” consists of people watching Dylan with enraptured looks.

My latest review for the NY Times is of Rajiv Joseph's "Dakar 2000." For some reason the productions at Manhattan Theater Club's medium-size space tend to miss the target. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/t...

If you want a snapshot of whatever insanity is happening in the realm of industrial food, Brand Eating is a good place to start. A revolting guiding principle is to add meat to everything: cheese pizza ramen not enough? Try Buffalo-style chicken pizza ramen! www.brandeating.com/2025/02/new-...

Make it a double bill: Peacock now has both Robert Eggers's "Nosferatu" and the 1979 version by Werner Herzog.

What the heck is going on at the Kennedy Center? @petermarksdrama.bsky.social and I invited former Washington Post classical-music chief critic Anne Midgette @classicalbeat.bsky.social to discuss the sitch in a special episode for our paying subscribers. marksvincentelli.substack.com/p/whats-in-s...

On the latest Marks & Vincentelli podcast, we talked to Bryan Doerries of Theater of War. It got a little heated at one point — don't worry, nowhere near Da Bomb Beyond Insanity. Hear it for yourself then tell us if you agree with me or with Bryan: marksvincentelli.substack.com/p/meet-the-m...

On their day off from "Death Becomes Her," Jennifer Simard and Christopher Sieber somehow found the energy to do "Pete 'n' Keely." It's a perfect showcase for their comic skills and of course they just killed last night. Behold, my review of the original production! www.petenkeely.com/timeout.html

When Swedes go country… youtu.be/MQAo-zrTolM

I'm very much looking forward to the concert version of the Steve and Eydie spoof "Pete 'n' Keely" at Carnegie Hall tonight. The show was pretty much designed for hammy comic performances and this concert has reigning champs: Jennifer Simard and Christopher Sieber.

Follow me for theater, TV and film writing. But really, follow me for updates on this little cutie, who was dumped near my sister’s house and adopted by my niece. Breed: unknown. Temperament: friendly.

Plenty of space but this police car chose to park in front of the bus stop. Bonus: we have to maneuver over slippery chunks of iced-up snow to board because the car is blocking the cleared sidewalk.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

1/2 The world truly has gone mad. On the one hand, I gave a critic's pick to "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" — so off-brand that after I filed my review, I received startled emails from Times staffers. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/m...

Stephanie Styles is currently shining in "Urinetown" at NY City Center. She's a proud comic soprano (possibly my favorite musical-theater type) and was the first-ever guest on the podcast to turn the tables and ask what our 3 favorite musicals are! marksvincentelli.substack.com/p/stefanie-s...

Viva Las Vegas, and Viva La Vincentelli, who landed Off Strip to write about a serious theater scene hard by the MGM Grand, the Paris and the Sphere. So much fun to hear about how theater happens everywhere.

Florentina Holzinger at Skirball is a pass for me. Though I’d love to see the reactions of the NYU students in attendance.

This week on the podcast, @petermarksdrama.bsky.social and I welcome Daz Weller, from the Vegas Theater Company, who talked to us about doing theater a mile from the Strip — which is very close and very far at the same time. marksvincentelli.substack.com/p/the-plays-...

I liked "Urinetown" a lot more in 2025 than in 2001, even though it's the same show. People change, context changes… www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/t...

Lincoln Center Theater is expanding its "leadership team" with the newly created position of "producer." I have thoughts about the seemingly constant expansion of management at big arts institutions; most of them are not positive.

Amateurs, beware — there is some expert-level humble-bragging going on there. Then again, it's pretty much impossible to avoid when writing about this particular predicament. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/04/b...

Only 124 days until hurricane season. Plenty of time for the states to spin up their own weather services, numerical forecast systems, satellite observing systems, and radar networks...
