Does anyone know whether the justification will be changed? Items not considered indirects normally can be billed as direct costs. Or is this a flat refusal to pay for the real costs of research? (e.g. computers can only be bought on direct costs if not included under indirect costs already)

Literally gets worse every day 🫠 I just want to train some students and do some science that hopefully helps people. That was already hard enough to actually do before Jan 2025 🫤

The goldfish I lovingly raised would react when I walked in. But they would go absolutely nuts when the department admin came into the room. Because she over-fed them all the time.

UPDATE: We have data on >1000 terminated #NSF grants at grant-watch.us. Thanks to all who have been contributing data the past few days. We've also added a "Reports" section with some analyses. For NSF, we see that the STEM education directorate has been absolutely pummeled.

"I would not have dared to dream that metastatic melanoma would become a treatable disease in my lifetime. Yet here we are today, with 43% of people diagnosed with metastatic melanoma living 10 years or more, due to treatments that we broadly refer to as cancer immunotherapy." Barry P. Sleckman, UAB

Crazy times, but I'll be advertising for a 2 year postdoc to work with me on new comp. methods to estimate evolutionary history soon - specifically to develop methods to handle missing data (e.g. ascertainment bias, allele dropout). Are you a comp. biologist graduating with a PhD soon? Reach out!

If I'm doing the same analysis on different populations can I just write "ditto" for Aim II and Aim III? It will be fewer pages for Reviewer 3 to read (and trash).

This is the kind of university leadership we need among the chaos of scientific funding challenges.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) just emailed constituents that he supports bipartisan solutions for housing and child care costs. He also comments against tariffs. Senior Republican leadership crossing the aisle may be a positive sign for the future amidst widespread chaos.

ATTENTION: NSF GRANT RECIPIENTS We received a heads up from a trusted source that you should proactively download/print/screen shot any documentation on research.gov pertaining to your NSF awards, both those that are current and any that have closed in the last 5-6 years. 1/n

🚨 Practical URGENT tip for NSF grantees: Out of an abundance of caution, I would right now go into Research.gov and… 1. Download your NSF award letters. 2. Print PDF your annual reports. 3. Screenshot the status table for annual reports. NSF is planning maintenance tomorrow to Research.gov
