this is just a horrible, pathological liar. we know that. but they know they've lost the public on this one. the escalation is the giveaway

A government-imposed $8 limit on most credit card late fees is the latest consumer protection regulation to be scrapped by President Trump’s administration.

BREAKING: The Trump administration plans to eliminate the IRS' Direct File program, an electronic system for filing your tax returns for free.

I know this #AI paper from 2023 is a little out of date, but the premise still holds true even with the newer chat-based models: How chat-based LLMs replicate the mechanics of a psychic’s con. (When I found this paper today I made a happy little noise) softwarecrisis.dev/letters/llme...

Sharing from X: "ICE is filing declarations in multiple cases admitting they don't have power to terminate student status, so students whose student records (SEVIS) are terminated remain in valid status. This means colleges disenrolling students (a majority) are punishing them for no reason."

Harvard figured out what everyone else in power needs to understand: Complicity with Trump will not save you. Standing up isn't just the right thing to do. It's the smart thing to do. He will renege on any "deal" you make and come after you anyway. www.salon.com/2025/04/16/h...

you really hate to hand it to em but Harvard figured out this is a repeated game www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/u...

everything is normal, we're just tasing protestors at town halls now

The next step for Trump is to send a US citizen convicted of something like child murder and rape to CECOT in El Salvador. It'll set the precedent to send citizens there while neutralizing outrage over it because of the heinous nature of their crimes. Then it'll any felony and then protestors.

1. You haven’t proven he’s a gang member (due process) 2. He had a legal right to be here and you haven’t proven that right should be stripped (due process) 3. “Invade” is a dishonest effort to misconstrue the debate 4. You’re saying the Trump admin is too weak to make El Salvador do this??

I’m sorry but if your students use AI to write papers and you use AI to grade them zero school is happening. You are running together on a hamster wheel

The great thing about fighting back against this stuff is that if you end up losing anyway you get the same outcome you’d have gotten from complying but you don’t have to fucking hate yourself too.

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

As it ever was: "what will convince them? This, and this only: cease to call slavery wrong, and join them in calling it right. And this must be done thoroughly - done in acts as well as in words. Silence will not be tolerated - we must place ourselves avowedly with them." - Lincoln, Cooper Union

literally the first listing i clicked on zillow

That's what I'm talking about. I wanna hear MORE OF THIS from the Dems in the Senate. And USE YOUR PROCEDURAL HEFT. That's what it's THERE FOR. Slow down everything. They are not operating in good faith, you give them none. No bipartisan comity with fascists.

I don't really know what to do about stuff like "rural people voted for Trump because they think Biden refused to give aid to western North Carolina" when Biden gave the aid and Trump denied it.

Donald Trump wants the threat of a death sentence in El Salvador to loom over everyone and anyone who stands up to him. That’s why his administration is waging a war on due process. That’s why he’s so eager to deport Americans to a foreign gulag. This evil was always his plan.

I had been doubtful that we were going to have a "this is the crisis moment" with Trump, as opposed to "everything about this is a destructive catastrophe." But the Abrego Garcia case is the crisis moment. 1/

If Trump comes after you, and you have some resources—think law firms and universities, not foreign students disappeared for speech—then you have a moral and patriotic obligation to fight back. If nothing else, it ties up the regime’s resources. They don’t have that much. They need capitulators.

First SSA now HHS facing imminent collapse bc Trump fired everyone.

"If universities are not willing to stand up for the free speech and academic freedom of their students and faculty, then what, if any, values do they stand for?"

To the people who think racist authoritarians should be posting more on Bluesky: What the actual fuck is wrong with you, fuck off with that mealy-mouth "both sides" bullshit, thank you for your attention, now go fuck yourselves

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)

More in No, Other People: New poll: “America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.” • 80% of Americans agree • 20% disagree “I would be better off if I worked in a factory.” • 25% of Americans agree • 73% disagree • 2% currently work in a factory

3 facts that should drive the news: 1) DOGE has committed, rather than found, fraud. 2) A bunch of antisemites are using a claim to police antisemitism to take over universities. 3) In spite of claims they're cracking down on China, Trump's FP & financial policies have vastly helped China.

there is simply no amount of child death that will move RFK to change his mind because he is a predatory narcissist who cares less about health than the gratification of his own ego

If the government can pay a foreign state to imprison you and, in so doing, remove you from the protection of US law, the Constitution is worthless.

This is bullshit—of course the US could apply diplomatic pressure to have him returned—but if it is allowed to stand, the executive branch has the power to disappear people permanently without any sort of due process. That in turn will be the end of all other constitutionally guaranteed rights.

"Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough." - FDR

As I’ve said, yes, this was their aim all along. That’s why they didn’t just send these people to Gitmo. This is an attempt to find a step beyond Gitmo where the court says, “Well, our hands are tied.” It’s an awful, lawless gambit that must fail, but that is what they want it to be.

Trump just denied North Carolina’s request for FEMA relief from Hurricane Helene, calling it “unwarranted.”

Crows continue to rule. www.npr.org/2025/04/12/n...

Local news coverage of Indiana University-Bloomington's Faculty Council endorsing a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC). Faculties of three state flagships so far have called for a united front: Rutgers (whole system), IU-Bloomington, UMass-Amherst. Michigan starts voting this week Who's next?

For everyone responding to my Dem State Party fundraising posts by griping that Dems need to "DO SOMETHING!" a reminder that THE STATE PARTIES ARE HELPING PAY FOR THE TOWN HALLS THAT WE KEEP DEMANDING THEY HOLD. democrats.org/peoples-town... secure.actblue.com/donate/battl...

The US now has the highest number of measles cases in 6 years. There were 105 new cases in the last week alone.

Fuck Trump www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/w...

weird, what could explain this

The chickens haven't really come home to roost yet (everything is about to double in price, tourists will no longer come to the U.S., much worse unintended consequences we don't have the imagination to conceive of) and people fucking hate this shit, generally loathe what's going on. Go on offense.

If you are actively culling your library to keep books like "The Bell Curve" while removing criticisms of the book, you are building a white supremacist library.
