However great cheap Spanish terracotta cooking pots are, it is a little dull when they explode in the oven.

Thanks to @mizyjudah.bsky.social and @politico.eu for writing up my thoughts on the governments recent immigration announcements and the effects they will have on our world leading university sector and the tech ecosystem more generally.

Tell me you don’t know how AirTags work without telling me.

A reminder that more people are employed in the yoga industry than there are registered fishers working in the UK.

Here is how it works: less immigrants coming for care work, wages rise, costs go up until locals want to do the job, most social care is paid for by local councils, no extra money for councils => more potholes in your roads.

My letter to the Prime Minister. #immigration

Labour going hard on immigration = 1. Damaging the economy 2. Pushing pissed off left-leaning voters to the Greens, Plaid, the SNP and the LibDems 3. Offering nowhere near enough for Reform-leaning voters All in all, politically and economically illiterate.

No one who speaks pejoratively of "deliverism" should be allowed anywhere near serious politics.

Yes, this. Especially lean into successful sectors (higher ed, media, finance, tech).

Remove a letter, ruin a movie Tent

This is the OG sin for everybody in financial markets.

I know a youth mobility scheme is a great thing and the EU and UK should definitely make this happen but what about an Old Codger Mobility Scheme where older people are free to live and work in the EU and UK? Asking for a friend…

Post a film you think almost everybody underrates:

This is very true. I set it as required viewing in my Entrepreneurship for Mathematicians lecture course.
