I was proud to be part of the United States team that rallied the world to support Ukraine. Now, I’m horrified by what we’ve become. A tragic day for democracy and an indelible stain on America’s history.

El Capitan displays a massive American flag upside down—the traditional signal of distress or extreme emergency.

Feeling liminal today and nature agrees.

On Feb 15, a critical line of defense was eliminated: the CDC's Laboratory Leadership Service (LLS). This program trained highly skilled scientists to be "disease detectives," deploying them to respond to public health threats & test for everything from viruses to toxins. www.cdc.gov/lls/php/our-...

Hell yeah. youtu.be/b0Ezn5pZE7o?...

Kendrick’s American flag motif at THIS MOMENT is subversive. Yes, yes, yes.

I believe!

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

I found the post! It’s @therealhoarse.bsky.social They ask people to share one good thing from the week. Recommended. 💪🏼Stay strong out there!

Humility is in order right now. No one knows what will make a difference. So do everything that you can to take some form of constructive action. 1000 people taking action is ALWAYS better than 1000 people doing nothing or 1000 people acting like East German figure skating judges.

Congress was denied entry to both the U.S. Department of Education and the Treasury, where Musk staffers blocked the doors. Along with its appropriations responsibilities, Congress holds oversight authority over federal agencies. Blocking congressional access to these agencies is illegal.

Probationary (competitive and excepted service) Title 5 employees cannot be terminated without cause. Terminations must be based on limited, clearly defined conditions that do not include discriminatory or political reasons. See Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) for appeals. www.mspb.gov

I was following someone who asked people to share one good thing from the week. I really liked that post. It was simple and genuinely positive. I can’t find that post, so I’m starting my own…share something good from your week if you care to…here’s mine…I watched a koala napping today.

For millennia, the Karuk people in Northern California have used fire to actively manage forests. Murphy Woodhouse and Bill Tripp join us to discuss how the tribe is training others in this practice.

Stay strong my friends. Rest. Recharge. Dig deep. We need each other and the country needs us. I have no idea what's awaiting me, or what will happen when this all ends. For the moment I know this: there are sick people and they need curing. Albert Camus, The Plague

Please, everyone, drop what you’re doing and read this:

This has been an exceptionally difficult and frightening week. Check in with the people around you. You never know who might need that kindness.

Yesterday’s sunrise through the smoke of the Border 2 fire. A little rain would be nice.

Can you imagine the courage it took to preach this message directly to the president? This is what a follower of Jesus looks like. (Partial transcript below.)

I love this so much! At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions. This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.

Thanks Bill #thesandcastleman for reminding all the people on the Coronado boardwalk what Monday 1/20/2025 is all about.
