We may need to rename "Stockholm syndrome." www.eunews.it/en/2025/05/0...

Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow... well... we may die... or democracy may die... or maybe we won't... hard to tell at his point.

#FridayReads The King in Yellow Getting into horror in preparation for The Cthulhu Luau, where I'll be playing the 1962 president of the ladies auxiliary who's possessed. But still does a mean Jello salad! cthulhu-luau.com

#FridayReads Just a little light escapist reading about an America where a charismatic but stupid leader leads the country into fascism because it's the only way to save it. Written in the 1930s when they were less enlightened.

Yes - more of our Senators should be doing this. Also denying quorums and demanding quorum calls every day, as well as denying unanimous consent. Don't let anything move forward until this stops.

#FridayReads I'm less than 50 pages in so don't have a fully formed opinion yet. But the characters are more nuanced and multi-dimensional than the ones in The Handmaid's Tale. THT seemed more like an intellectual exercise while this may have more emotional heft. www.goodreads.com/book/show/42...

Look at this Simple Sabotage Field Manual distributed by the CIA in the 40s in Nazi-occupied countries with ways working people could resist without putting themselves or their families at risk. You may want to share it - just for its nifty historical value! www.cia.gov/static/5c875...

All y'all gloating because the people who voted for the "Leopards Eat Your Face" party are getting their faces nibbled, you do realize the leopards will be eating your face as well, right? I mean, you can call it schadenfreude all you want, but it's really keinefreude.

Um, actually, a Nazi salute is from the Nuremberg region. Technically, Musk's move was "Sparkling Anti-Semitism" HTH

I’ve never prayed to William Henry Harrison before but *fingers crossed* abcnews.go.com/US/trumps-in...

Lost another good one, dammit! Hope wherever you are, Mr. Lynch, you're making things a little more surreal.

You know, Michelle Obama has given an amazing number of fucks about a great many important things. I think we should cut her some slack about having no fucks to give about the upcoming inauguration. Besides, she's following in Melania's footprint; Mel didn't make it to Biden's inauguration.

As various American Gods are shown to have feet of clay, it's good to find things you want to buy from people you want to support. Penzey's spices, for example. Or AV Crosswords, which sent this out today. If you are a word lover and don't subscribe to AVXW, you really should.

Been wondering how those Canadian CL-415 Super Scooper planes work that are doing water drops on the LA area fires….really cool and badass 🇨🇦💪!

"I never liked Neil Gaiman's writing in the first place" is the new "I don't even own a TV."

@mbta.bsky.social How do I re-activate a prematurely expired Charlie Card? My card has an expiration date of 12/25 printed on the card, but is getting Card Expired error messages when I try to use it.

So apparently I've been added to moderation list called "Block Furry Posts" by someone with the user name "@invalid.handle." I have no idea why this happened or what I should do about it.

Today we lost Sam Moore (he's the tenor). We lost Dave Prater (the baritone) almost 40 years ago in '88. I hope they're jamming out wherever they are, and that they have a kick ass brass lineup.

"Two-Way Traffic On Tiny One-Lane Street Ahead"

#FridayReads. I just started young Jane Young at the suggestion of @fairytalepapers.bsky.social so far I like it. It's a vaguely fictionalized account of the Monica Lewinsky story and I'm always up for a good slut-shaming story where the slut-shamers get their comeuppance.

Fact du jour: At Nixon's second inauguration, flags were at half staff to show respect for President Truman, who had passed on December 26. Nixon, as president at the time, was the one who ordered the flags lowered. Outclassed by Nixon. So sad.

Pathetic that we say "wakey wakey, eggs and bakey" when "AWAKEN AWAKEN, EGGS AND BACON" relies on 0 bullshit baby words and sounds both triumphant and ominous.

So I'm new here, and I wasn't particularly active on Twitter so don't really know the protocol. I'm getting followers that I don't know - on FB I'd just decline them, but I kinda think these are real people. How do these folks find me? And how do I find out about them?

H Mart finally opened in Davis square! And boy do they have a lot of different types of mushrooms! It was too crowded to take pics of the rest of the store but there's lots of good produce, frozen dumplings, meal kits, and sadly a dearth of eat-in foods or French patisserie.
