Let’s talk about cougar science for a moment in light of what's been happening in Canmore and with the mother cougar that got killed by hound hunters, orphaning two young spotted kittens. (if you missed it, you can catch up on my IG or FB)... 1/4

@exposedwildlife.bsky.social is hiring!! Are you passionate about protecting and advocating for threatened apex predators like bears, wolves and cougars in Western Canada and beyond? www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/jobs

The latest on river otters in Alberta thanks to @exposedwildlife.bsky.social

This educational material is excellent. After my recent thrilling encounter with a cougar, I have even more respect for these incredible creatures. Not to be feared, but revered.

SPOILER ALERT: Yes, it is. #wildlife #conservation

One of our goals is to make wildlife conservation accessible and easy to understand for everyone. With knowledge comes informed decision making, and we want to change how wildlife is managed in Canada and beyond. 📷: @johnemarriott.bsky.social

Wildlife killing contests are unethical, go against scientific knowledge, and can create an increase in negative encounters between wildlife and people. Thank you to @exposedwildlife.bsky.social for speaking out on this issue - contact your MLA to take action. #ABpoli therockies.life/is-it-time-t...

A family from #PEI is raising awareness about the dangers of traps after their dog, River, was trapped by a neck snare. They're sharing her story to highlight the risks of trapping in the province and push for change. Learn more and find out how you can take action: buff.ly/3PMt6lR

The "1st Annual Coyote Classic," a coyote killing contest, has been announced months after Alberta's "Top Wolf Killing Contest." Just heartbreaking news. #wildlife

Research from team of my U of A friends & colleagues details impacts of recreation on grizzly habitat use. Sharing the landscape w/ these carnivores = thinking about managing human impact when we're planning & using trails. #mla #bkn #environment #wildlife #management #data #ableg #abpoli

And I'm back! Took a few weeks off of most social media for the holidays and so I hope everyone had a good holiday season. And Happy New Year! To kick off 2025, a few wolves from the Banff Town wolf pack.

Fun fact: Not all Black Bears are black. Black Bears come in a range of colours including blond, brown, cinnamon, black and a creamy white (Kermode or Spirit Bear). Here's a pair of "Black" Bears I saw out for a stroll in Waterton Lakes National Park a few springs ago. #wildlife #bears

Hope everyone is surviving this first full week of the year. To learn more about what we're working on in 2025, please check out our website at www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org. #wildlife #conservation 📸: @johnemarriott.bsky.social

How does a grizzly navigate a landscape? Check out this GPS-collared bear in the Columbia Valley who researchers joked was a drone as it crossed so many areas! Incredibly, the bear moved where scientists predicted, proving how vital connected corridors are for wildlife. Hear more from Dr Proctor:

These are the beautiful animals that we are working so hard to protect!

"A trapper taking more than one wolverine on a trapline is either removing an overlapping (mating) male and female, or a mother and child. Both cases ensure there will be no more wolverines in that area in the near future." - Jason T. Fisher #wildlife #conservation

An absolute must-read for those of you concerned about wolverines here in Alberta and beyond.

We’re thrilled to announce that after months in development, the Wolf Series is now live and ready for you to explore! Lots of great info available here: www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/knowledge-ba... 📷: Exposed Ambassador @timosborne.bsky.social

It’s with heavy hearts that we honor the memory of Nakoda and her cubs, whose tragic loss this year highlights the need for stronger protections for wildlife in our national parks. One key issue is road safety, as collisions with vehicles remain a major threat to grizzly bears and other animals.

NEW: Alberta has quietly opened cougar hunting in a provincial park. It's the latest in a slew of changes to hunting rules from Alberta Parks and Forestry Minister Todd Loewen, a hunter whose family owns a hunting business, @drewanderson.bsky.social reports. thenarwhal.ca/alberta-coug...

All donations to the wildlife charity @exposedwildlife.bsky.social I co-founded are being doubled today and this week: www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/donate Quick note: I don't make a $$ from Exposed. All donations go directly toward fighting for better protections for bears, wolves & cougars.

My grizzly shot that was nominated for The People's Choice Award in last year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.

It's #GivingTuesday and more than ever, we need your support to keep doing the work that we do. Please consider making a one-time or monthly donation so that we can continue to raise a voice for wildlife. www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/donate

Once again, the Alberta government has ignored science and handed over the management of its fur-bearing species, like wolverine, lynx and river otter, to trappers. For more details and to Take Action, please visit www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/news/release... #wildlife #conservation
