THE SUBSTANCE and SEVERANCE are similar in that they both are pretty on-the-nose metaphors about a huge aspect of modern life but they also have a lot of interesting and complicated worldbuilding that doesn't actually serve as a metaphor for anything in particular

The saddest part, to me, about Superman is that he never really gets a chance to be “himself.” As Superman he has to be an example for others to follow. As Mild Mannered Reporter Clark Kent he has to be a clumsy bumbling dork. When does he ever get to just be, Clark?
