Cool today, cooler Thursday: Temperatures are expected to be well below normal across San Diego County today. The weather service says a low pressure system from the west will bring a chance of showers tonight & Thursday a.m. A 2nd low brings another chance late Thurs. & Fri. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

There's no sun to be seen at nearly 1 p.m. here in inland North County. The picture will probably look similar on Wednesday. On Thursday, the weather service says there's a chance of showers, & on Friday, the forecasters are even tossing in a slight chance of thunderstorms. #CAwx #sandiegoweather

A mid-latitude cyclone sporting the classic comma shape slowly spirals off the Eastern Seaboard.

It was cloudy and cool on the hike to the waterfall at the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve today. The sun came out on the way back, and so did the butterflies. Saw plenty of Powell’s Admirals (right). Also saw a bumper crop of poison oak, so if you visit, stay on the trails. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Location, location, location: The quake at 10:08 this morning west of Julian and east of Ramona was definitely the biggest we’ve felt at our North County home in our 22 years here. But the epicenter is probably the closest of any quake we’ve felt. Revised magnitude is now 5.2. #quake

yes, family said it was a long one. Family member was on the toilet at the time.....didn't know whether to get off the pot or shit & take cover kinda situation...true story....now stating she did more of a duck & hover over the toilet, worked in a pinch...stop, plop, and roll...ah, family..!!! 👍😘😁

That was quite a shake here in inland North County. Preliminary 5.1 near Ramona. Big enough that I got under a doorway.

This morning’s overcast comes with a small side of drizzle in inland North County. The marine layer is expected to deepen more tonight, leading to possibly more drizzle Tuesday a.m. Forecast for later this week still uncertain, with a 15-40% chance of rain Thursday & Friday. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

More than 65 people joined TSD's Tree Treks, an educational walk, Saturday at Balboa Park. Our certified arborist highlighted native & non-native tree species, their environmental benefits, & how they shape our urban landscape. Our next Tree Treks is May 10 at Lake Murray Community Park. #trees

Sometimes, May gray starts in April. The weather service expects clearing by late morning inland, but the beaches may be cloudy past noon. We're in for a cool week with below-normal highs, & forecasters say there's a chance of rain west of the mountains Friday & Saturday. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

It’s a great day to keep eyes on the skies in San Diego County. Super cirrus and altocumulus are putting on a show. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

High clouds danced above the encroaching fog this morning in inland North County. The weather service expects a much cooler day today as the marine layer reasserts its influence after a couple of warm days inland. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

The fog has moved in at Petco. Rockies didn’t have that excuse when the Pads scored 6 in the fifth. #Padres #sandiegoweather

It’s a beautiful night for baseball at Petco before the Padres face the Rockies. 70 degrees with a few high clouds. #Padres #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Earth science research and data isn’t political. America’s dedication to understanding weather and climate grows our nation’s economy, protects ecosystems, keeps our air and water clean and safe and protects citizens from life-threatening natural hazards. This is not something to mess with.

La Nina is gone. No El Nino brewing. So this is nada ... meaning what for the near future? Hard to say. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...

A bit warm inland, and Friday should be warmer still. Some highs today: San Pasqual Valley, 88; Escondido, Poway, 87; Ramona, Santee, Valley Center, 86; Alpine, El Cajon, 85. Along the coast, San Diego, National City and Encinitas reached 72, Chula Vista, 73. Cooler Saturday. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Bringing the heat: High pressure aloft is weakening the onshore flow, limiting cooling inland. The San Diego County desert should hit 100° Friday. That high pressure eases Saturday through the middle of next week, returning temperatures west of the mountains to near normal. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Winter Arctic sea ice "was the lowest maximum extent of the 47-year satellite era, which began in 1979 ... all of the top 10 smallest winter ice extents of the satellite record have occurred since 2007," according to NOAA.

A walk in the park: Tree San Diego will lead a Tree Trek Saturday at Balboa Park. Participants can walk and talk with an experienced arborist who will identify tree species, discuss their characteristics and benefits, plus share some history of the park. Details below. Hope to see you there! #trees

The weather service has issued a dense fog advisory for the San Diego County coastal strip. Visibility at San Diego International Airport is down to a quarter mile. If you have a morning flight, might want to check on potential delays. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Some tree eye candy from San Leandro, south of Oakland: A fabulously flowering dogwood. Many trees are in beautiful bloom around the state, including San Diego County. #tees

It's heating up out in the desert. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park could nudge 100° by Thursday. Last year, the first 100° day out there didn't come until May 17. In 2023, it came on April 27. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

It’s not a fantastic year for ceanothus (lilac, upper right) at Escondido’s Daley Ranch. Hillsides aren’t covered in blue like some years, but some plants are flowering nicely. Also blooming today were hairy vetch (left) and Pacific pea (lower right). #sandiegoweather #CAwx

San Diego's high of 75 Sunday was the warmest it's been since March 19 (76). It should be a little bit cooler west of the mountains today and Tuesday. Most of the inland valleys were in the 80s on Sunday. Highs should return to the low to mid 80s Wednesday through Friday. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

San Diego recorded just 0.01 of an inch of rain Thursday. But that's more than the city recorded in five entire Aprils, going back to 1850. It got just 0.01 another eight years, most recently in 2017. Normal for the month is 0.65. The record is 5.37 in 1926. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

It's a chilly morning across San Diego County. Down to 40° here in inland North County. San Diego low of 48 at the airport is 8° below normal for April 4. Ramona has dropped to 34, Valley Center, 38. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Most of the county has recorded rain today. It didn't start here in inland North County until just before 6 p.m. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

It's a beautiful day for cloudwatching across California with a lot of puffy cumulus clouds forming over the hills. Send me your photos! #CAwx

It's been a good year for precipitation in the Northern Sierra, a key region for California's water supply. Most of the year, the totals have been above average for the date. The current total matches the average for the entire water year, which runs through Sept. 30. #CAwx

Like all the recent mini-storms, the one expected to arrive this afternoon and this evening is unlikely to be a big producer. But it will be good to get a little bit of moisture. There's no more rain on the horizon, and temperatures are forecast to climb next week. #CAwx #sandiegoweather

Take home a FREE tree Saturday as part of TSD's Leafing Our Legacy, which gives shade-bearing trees to San Diego County residents. We'll distribute 200 trees at Bonsall Berry Farm (4356 Holly Lane, Bonsall, 92003), 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Call (858) 210-6451 or email [email protected] for details. #trees

Well, March is in the books, and the final result is an anomaly of 1.60°C above the 1850-1900 IPCC baseline, making this past March the second hottest on record to March, 2024 (1.68°C). The first quarter of 2025 registered 1.65°C above the baseline. In other news, America has fallen.

The end of California’s storm season has brought more fresh snow to the Sierra, pushing the snowpack to 96% of average. This has given the state a third straight year of ample water supplies in the mountains — something that hasn’t happened since 1998-2000. www.latimes.com/environment/... #CAwater

That is a pretty April morning in the fabulous Southern Sierra Nevada. Webcam is at Buck Rock, about 8,400 feet. Sometimes, the trees have a better view than anyone else. cameras.alertcalifornia.org?pos=36.7405_...

Someone flipped the switch. The Climate Prediction Center's forecast for next week, issued Tuesday, calls for plenty of heat in the West after a long cool spell, and lots of cold in the East.

April showers: The weather service expects off-and-on rain through Thursday evening. Added to the mix is a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday afternoon, & snow in the San Diego County mountains. Friday starts a warming trend. Could be mid 80s+ inland by mid next week. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

We had tiny showers a couple of times earlier today here in inland North County, but the most recent one before 10 p.m. was the only one to produce measurable rain. It’s just 0.02 of an inch, but it’s the fourth rainy day in the last week. Not bad after our dry winter. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Sean Peer was all over tonight’s sunset in Escondido. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Little bit of hail mixed in with this cell that just tracked across San Francisco. #CAwx

A low-pressure system approaching the Oregon border will continue to spin up showers Tuesday as it crosses into Northern California. These showers will be hit-or-miss, meaning weather conditions will vary from abundant sunshine in one city to downpours just a few miles away. #CAwx
