This #WorldDayOfSocialJustice, we celebrate Fair Trade as a powerful force for social, economic, and climate justice. Its transformative potential paves the way for a future that uplifts both people 👫 and the planet 🌍 ✊💚 There will be no climate justice without social justice.

The @ec.europa.eu Vision for Agriculture & Food is a step forward but overlooks market justice & non-EU farmers' rights. ❌ As it stands, the Vision fails to tackle the inequalities that farmers, especially smallholders, face in global supply chains. Our view👇 fairtrade-advocacy.org/wp-content/u...

One of the many good things about the Fairtrade system is people and organisations in different countries working together to achieve better outcomes for farmers and workers. Like with the Fairbruary campaign. www.fairbruary.com

The EU food system heavily relies on imports from non-EU countries, where farmers often face greater injustices. To uphold its commitment to fairness, the @ec.europa.eu's Vision for Agriculture & Food must: ✅ Ban below-cost purchases ✅ Ensure living incomes for all farmers Our view⤵️ bit.ly/439EsbF

Our ‘Café Salon - High Coffee Prices - Global Impact’ at 4.30pm this Monday 10th Feb, should be good. You can register for it here and join coffee farmers from Honduras and Guatemala for a lively discussion. www.fairtrade.ie/fairbruary-e...

Many thanks to JCDecaux for their continued support for Fairtrade and www.fairbruary.ie

Great news - hopefully funding for projects like this in Uganda funded by Fairtrade Ireland can be used for living incomes in the future.. www.fairtrade.ie/support-flow...

Fairtrade’s community development projects are based on the same local needs assessments and local responses to the lack of services.. #Fairbruary #Fairtade

Fairbruary starts today - www.fairbruary.ie #fairbruary ..so plenty of things to do as 1st February is also St Brigid’s Day in Ireland - #StBrigid www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

🚨 Over 160 CSOs, trade unions & activists say #NoToOmnibus Weakening the #CSDDD, #CSRD and #EUTaxonomy is a betrayal of the EU's commitments to protect people and the planet. President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu: Push for accountability, not impunity. ✍️ fairtrade-advocacy.org/wp-content/u...

Food safety, public health, workers’ rights, animal welfare & environmental protections are the backbone of a fair & resilient society. 📢 Together with 270+ orgs we call on @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu to uphold #RulesToProtect people, nature & democracy. ✍️ fairtrade-advocacy.org/wp-content/u...

Two important questions for a decent diet. Who gets to eat from a banana? - And when to eat a banana? Know what to eat and when to eat.

With Fairbruary starting on 1st February in Ireland Which is also #StBrigidsDay Here is what one Fairtrade coffee coop manager, Rafael Fonseca, told us last year. fairtrade.ie/videos/rafae...

Your wellness - Their Wellness! Drinking coffee can bring health benefits, but it depends on when you drink it, new study finds www.irishtimes.com/health/your-...

👨‍🌾🌍 Smallholder farmers deserve fair incomes, in the EU and beyond. The @ec.europa.eu's new Vision for Agriculture and Food must deliver: ban below-cost sales & ensure living incomes to strengthen farmers' position in the supply chain. Our recommendations⤵️ fairtrade-advocacy.org/wp-content/u...

Indeed it does - why should small farmers be required to manage the last of the world’s great rain forests when they don’t get paid enough for their coffee or cocoa to enjoy living incomes? There’s a bit of the feudals still about that relationship.

Lots of great things happening too! reasonstobecheerful.world/the-year-in-...

"The cash seems to motivate participation in community work, while the community work catalyzes the impact of the cash. We saw this especially in the formation of a labor union among the garbage collectors participating in our experiment in India." UBI 🤝 unions theconversation.com/we-cant-beli...

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come. ‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair. Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Food is more than sustenance; it’s culture, history, and identity. Decolonizing our food systems means embracing fairness, sustainability, and the stories behind what we eat. gentfairtrade.be/en/fair-trad... #DecolonizeYourPlate #FairTrade #FoodJustice

"The basic idea is that people living in poverty know best themselves what they need... When you give people living in poverty the opportunity to improve their own living conditions, with a little help, they grab it with both hands." Universal basic income trusts people. That trust is paramount.

Anyone know the artist for this - found it on Twitter ages ago but didn’t note the name? What’s one thing that strikes you about the drawings?

Growth in demand for coffee of 60% in last five years in China; linked to climate related productivity losses, are the twin drivers of near 50 year highs in coffee prices. But not all price increases reach the farmers say coffee coop Pachamama pachamamacoffee.com www.nytimes.com/2024/12/28/b...

Even Fairtrade that seeks to support living incomes and living wages struggles with this one. It’s such a stretch to get buy in along supply chains where the value accumulates towards the top - as with the CEOs..

Human economics - the poorer you are the more you pay over time..

Extraordinary that our ancestors created this to experience the magic of our planet and universe. It’s a very silly modern conceit that people thousands of years ago were less intelligent than ourselves. - As it happened: Watch the winter solstice at Newgrange www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2024...

My friends, 2025 is going to be rocky. But one thing I know for sure is that some incredible people put a huge amount of care, craft, love and rage into writing books that will soon be published that are going to help us make sense of this broken and beautiful world. 📚🧵

Hi Ben, Hi Jerry - have something happening here in Fairbruary and would love your involvement - who should we talk to in Ireland? Thanks 🙏 @benandjerrys.bsky.social

Probably not a place many of us have heard of before - and then this. This is how chaotic climate change disproportionately affects those that had least to do with creating it. Cyclone Chido: Hundreds feared dead after storm hits French island of Mayotte www.irishtimes.com/world/europe...

History was made in The Hague these past two weeks: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) just concluded its historic hearings on the world’s biggest problem: climate change. Read our closing statement: www.ciel.org/news/icj-climate-justice-hearings/

On yer bike ya carpet roller! But seriously.. recycling.. regenerative economy, waste not.. impressive

Wonder if this case re climate justice and island states has any relationship to coffee being at its highest price per lb EVER due to ‘bad weather’ in Brazil and Vietnam? Maybe tens of millions of coffee farmers will be next at Int Court of Justice in Hague if their crops keep failing…

And some tropical Fairtrade too hopefully as there are no chocolate trees locally, coffee bushes don’t grow in our ditches and banana 🍌 trees are rarely found outside the botanical gardens 😉

Amazing work from @ESBNetworks who now restored power to 275,000 premises as of 8:35pm. They continue to work on restoring power to the remaining 120,000 premises but some will remain without power for days.
