Two quarts of fresh strawberries cut up for fresh use. One quart will go to baking and the remaining five will be frozen. The stems will be used to make strawberry infused vinegar (yeah, that's a thing). Miles Davis is playing in the background.

Today with preschool granddaughter: 1. Taught her the sad trombone sound and appropriate use ("womp womp womp waaahhh"). 2. We read a version of Beauty and the Beast in which her father was a trader. His name is Joe, and her family owns Trader Joe's. Pappy Achievements unlocked.

My father was a Korean War veteran (1950-51), and we visited the Memorial on the National Mall after it opened. He kept a notebook when he was dying fifty years later and mentioned two men, both marked "KIA." Thinking of who they were, 75 years later. RIP, Baker and Rodrigues.

My son heard that speech at the 2016 Scout National Jamboree. He texted that night about how weird it was. It also started his scouting exit process because of his disappointment with the enthusiasm of fellow scouts and leaders in their enthusiastic response to Trump.

We use three sources for our fresh produce: a local orchard, a family farm market, and "the Corn Wagon." Local strawberries are now in. At the orchard, $6/qt. 33% higher than last year's $4.50/qt. Corn Wagon opens on Monday.

Municipal primary elections day. It's hard because the County Board employee responsible for staffing precincts was a young woman who died a month ago. She did a lovely job working with us old fart volunteers across several hundred precincts in the County. /1
