Every time I load Bluesky I hear "Goooodbye Blue Sky" by Pink Floyd.

I haven't yet shouted about it, but I was really happy to successfully replace Amazon as my main source of income last year. Through a combination of wide sales and freelance work (and declining Amazon sales anyway). This year I'm trying to more or less cut out my spending on Amazon, too.

Well I found American Primeval to be a great and gritty western with a sadly really rather weak finale.

When you've got friends who write good-ass books... That shit rules @cmcaplanwrites.bsky.social @fantasticphil.bsky.social

Today’s event at Afrori Books (Brighton’s black-owned bookstore) was amazing. I was in conversation with bestselling author Natasha Bowen (Skin of the Sea). Afterwards, I got to sign their Author Wall. 🖤📚 Note: I swiped a photo from author @clairelinney.bsky.social ’s post, heehee (😁❤️).

Wonderful to hear @nnedi.bsky.social talk in Brighton today; an inspiring and brilliant writer. I'm looking forward to reading Death of the Author. And I'd highly recommend a visit to Afrori Books for anyone visiting Brighton – it's a really special store.

SRFC is BACK on Tuesday 11th March! Grace Curtis will be talking about her new fantasy novel, Idolfire + Bona Books @bonabooks.bsky.social present: John Berkeley @jrberkeley.bsky.social Christopher Caldwell @seraph76.bsky.social Rien Grey @riengray.bsky.social 7pm, Star of Kings, nr Kings Cross

As it happens, today is my birthday! If you want to celebrate, what better way than buying one of my books...? 😇 books2read.com/patricksamph...

For any fans of Nnedi Okorafor in the Brighton area, she's doing a talk this Saturday, I'm planning on going myself: afroribooks.co.uk/products/in-...

I have plenty else to be getting on with but I have instead just spent a half hour writing the first chapter of a contemporary action thriller about vigilantes hunting billionaires, entitled "Can't We Just Kill Them?" Sometimes the mood takes you...

In case you don't know, I write a site packed full of free articles about English language and effective writing. It was hugely popular for a long time, but the views have been plummeting since Google started introducing AI summaries. So why not have a look. englishlessonsbrighton.co.uk

Good Morning Blue Sky! I hope you’re all ok? Today I’m reading the short story anthology Of Shadows, Stars and Sabers edited by Jendia Gammon and Gareth L Powell. What are you reading at the moment?

With Oksy, Come Home reaching the @thesfincs.bsky.social finals I've finally got my act together and produced a paperback version. Available now from whether you get your print books!

And the first draft of Blood Scouts #3 is complete! A much shorter novel, but no less unpleasant! Can't say I'm hugely satisfied with it yet, but therein lies the editing.

Good Morning Blue Sky! Hope you’re all ok? Today I’m currently reading and highly enjoying The Crimson Road by AG Slatter (there may be vampires). What are you reading at the moment?

Are people watching From? I've been enjoying it a lot; it's like Lost but with more horror and a (hopefully) more coherent story. Though time will tell on that one.

A really excellent and important post and thread from Delilah, do read it. Yes please to paying authors for their work, instead of funnelling all our money into Amazon.

Happy book birthday! I really must catch up on this series.

Got a lovely new testimonial from the too-kind author Phil Parker on my editing site! "frequently got me thinking, evaluating the relevant plot points and the use of language. Good editing should be about helping the author to learn – and he has!" phil-williams.co.uk/copyediting-...

I’ve only read one of these books, Oksy, Come Home, and it’s a total banger. Look forward to reading more of these. Congrats to the finalists @fantasticphil.bsky.social

Congrats to all my fellow finalists, and to the semifinalists, I'm sure it was all close! Please check them all out!

Absolutely chuffed and delighted to announce Oksy, Come Home, my little known Blood Scouts novella, has reached the finals of SFINCS!

I knew starting out that this novel was gonna have a tough chapter but I've just got to writing it and yeah. I might need a few hours off after that.

For anyone new to Bluesky with an interest in science fiction, here's a starter pack I put together👇

Echoes of the Imperium from @nicholasatwater.com & @oliviaatwater.com is a very enjoyable steampunk/sky-sea faring fantasy adventure with some delightfully creative twists, highly recommend checking it out!

Some of the most creative work I've encountered in the past couple of years has been from American audiobook narrators inventing accents for nationalities they are clearly not familiar with.

Had a dream where Ving Rhames turned up as a violent gang's fixer called Hoody Jeyd Fredo and I think someone should make that movie now. The name was captioned and everything.

Don't know why it keeps happening but there's more romance creeping into my horrific Blood Scouts war stories than I ever intended to write anywhere. Something to do with crushing dreams, I guess.
