One aspect of doing a political purge of the military and civil service is you can't come back in afterwards and just revert to status quo ante policies. A counter-purge becomes a necessity before you can then restore usual norms and protections. The people he's installing can't be left in place.

you ever wonder if it's possible that the world is screwed up because we reached a point where every decisionmaker alive was raised on television

USA: Help! I’ve got leaky roof and the plumbing is bad and the electrical system goes out and- Trump: I can fix it USA: Great! How? Trump: I’m gonna knock it all down USA: uh…ok, then what? Trump:

People whipped into a frenzy by RW disinfo and racial fear demanded SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING, but the assumption was that the people to whom something needed to be done would line up with their specific flavor of "everything's gone to shit and it's all ________'s fault"

Everyone in the Trump coalition voted for someone to get got. Most of them didn’t realize that they were that someone to someone else.

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

Whatever happened here probably elected Donald Trump, and it doesn’t make a single lick of sense to say “Oh it’s just that Democrats didn’t listen hard enough.”
