Two years ago today was a heck of a day — I got the offer to write STAR WARS: THE LIVING FORCE while driving down to the STRANGE NEW WORLDS: THE HIGH COUNTRY launch. (And today there'd be a banner for it and BATMAN: RESURRECTION in the spot where I'm standing!)

This was actually my first unlicensed Star Wars toy, before the real ones were available. The airport set had small end-piece connectors which enabled the creation of (completely right-angular!) X-wings and some very unstable TIE fighters.

Great news! According to the Near Mint Condition Youtube channel, STAR WARS LEGENDS OMNIBUS: THE OLD REPUBLIC VOL. 2 releases this October from Marvel. With Vol. 1 reprinting on March 25, that's my entire Old Republic comics work (KOTOR, Lost Tribe of the Sith, Knight Errant) in just two volumes!

This is pretty horrible — and too familiar. Back at UT Knoxville in the late 1980s I wrote newspaper articles about Scott Hartman, a student my age who’d been struck with a hammer and lapsed into a coma. He never regained consciousness, passing in 2003.

My first STAR TREK novel, TAKEDOWN, released ten years ago today. It literally began life with the pitchline "The Hunt for Red October with Riker chasing Picard"; I reversed that order once plotting began. A great cover featuring the U.S.S. Aventine by Mark Rademaker. First of many novels to follow!

Today's the 19th anniversary of STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #1; Monday is 20 years since I was asked to explore the era. Today's also the 14th anniversary of my first novel, STAR WARS: KNIGHT ERRANT. The latter has a new Essential edition, while KOTOR gets a new Omnibus printing in March.
