If you absolutely MUST travel to the United States from anywhere in Europe, if you can possibly expend the money to do so, get a Canadian ETA and layover at a Canadian airport like Toronto. The immigration check is done on Canadian soil, meaning if the US refuses you, they cannot detain you.
