VATICAN UPDATE: The Pope presented an isolated attack of bronchospasm which, however, led to an episode of vomiting with inhalation and a sudden worsening of his respiratory condition. He was promptly aspirated and started on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, with a good response.

Living in the Far East and South East Asia for a number of years I was introduced into some of the most amazing and moreish snacks. These Oyster Mushroom Crisps are moreish on another level. I’ve had to have the packet taken off me otherwise there would be none left!

MIDDAY VATICAN UPDATE: The Pope is to undergo new tests this morning. He remains in “stable condition;” results are expected during the evening medical bulletin. Pope Francis is still undergoing oxygen therapy and sits in an armchair. His mood “remains good.”

EVENING UPDATE FROM THE VATICAN: The Pope’s health condition shows a slight improvement. The renal insufficiency has subsided, and pulmonary evolution is normal. He continues with oxygen therapy and respiratory physiotherapy. Although stable, his prognosis remains reserved.

The announcement that the Defence Budget is being increased by 2.5% suggests that we will be going to war against Russia in the very near future. Jesu Mercy Mary Pray!

This evening Pietro Cardinal Parolin led the Roman Curia, the Cardinals resident in Rome, & hundreds of faithful, in the rain in St Peter’s Square, praying the Rosary, followed by the Litany of Loreto & prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father. UPDATE ON POPE FRANCIS: There is a “slight improvement in pope's condition” but “still critical.” There have been no new “respiratory crises; oxygen therapy continues, but slightly decreased. There is some improvement in lab tests.The Pope went to Mass this morning, worked & called a parish in Gaza.

A quote from Father Nunzio Corrao, the chaplain of the Agostino Gemelli Hospital. “È l’ora della speranza contro ogni speranza.” It’s the hour of hope against all hope.

Vatican sources say the Pope’s “mood is good, and “he is eating normally.” Tonight in St. Peter’s Square, Cardinal Parolin will pray the rosary for the Pope’s intention, and for all who are sick.

As of now I do not see Pope Francis giving up this fight and resigning. He has said: “The Lord of the Harvest still wants me here.” Barring any further major medical crisis, Francis sees his pontificate as a mission from God, and it will be up to God, not Francis to take it away.

EVENING UPDATE FROM THE VATICAN: Pope Francis' condition remains "critical," doctors say, with blood tests showing "initial, mild, renal failure, at present under control." He's still using supplemental oxygen continues through nasal cannulas. This morning he participated in Mass.

Anniversary of the death of the Poet John Keats who died on this day in 1821. I was very honoured to have been able to make a private visit to his grave on my trip to Rome in 2024.

UPDATE FROM THE VATICAN: FEB 22 morning: In notably short update Vatican says Pope Francis “rested well” last night. Unlike previous days, no news on if he was able to get up or take food. As normal, slightly fuller details expected later.

Medical update on Pope Francis: While he is not yet fully cured, his doctor assures he is not in immediate danger of death. The Pope continues to receive comprehensive care and support.

The Vatican reports that Pope Francis had a peaceful sixth night in Rome's Gemelli hospital, where he is being treated for double pneumonia. This morning he sat out of bed and had breakfast. (DG)

LATEST UPDATE ON POPE FRANCIS: ROME (AP) — In an early update on Wednesday morning, a Vatican spokesman said Francis spent his fifth night in Rome's Gemelli hospital peacefully. “He had a tranquil night, woke up and had breakfast,” he said.

BREAKING UPDATE: Vatican says Pope Francis has “a complex clinical condition;” he has “bilateral pneumonia requiring further drug therapy. He is in good spirits, has received the Eucharist, and spends time praying and reading. The Pope appreciates the support and asks for prayers.”

Humanity needs the charismatic figure of Pope Francis to continue living, for he tirelessly proclaims an end to war and hatred, and announces the power of love among all, peace and social friendship. He is a beacon guiding us towards a good end for humanity. May God preserve him.

Happy Heavenly Wedding Anniversary to my beloved Grandparents Patrick and Millicent Henry. Today would have been their 97th Wedding Anniversary. They were married in 1928 in St Mary’s Church, Athlone.

Saddened to read that actor Julian Holloway has died. Known for his memorable roles in the Carry On film series. He was one of those likeable actors who came across as a thoroughly decent man. May he Rest in Peace.
