How can someone look at this (and many like this) and not see peak hypocrisy in the Western world today?

As an #American living in #Canada, I am simply in awe of how awful Canadian banks are. For example, #BMO Bank is such an epic disaster of Biblical proportions that at some point your frustration begins to subside and you start hallucinating that you are actually in an escape room game ++

I couldn't agree more! The excessive focus on linearized solutions to HA models is a bit like the old joke about the drunk who is looking for a key under a lamppost because that's where the light is. More discussion of why we need non-linear models and ways forward here benjaminmoll.com/challenge/

Democrats' confusion is stunning: who thought running this ad was a good idea? What's the argument here: everybody working for a president must be elected by the public? Who elected Blinken? Austin? Garland? Yelken? Does anyone doubt Musk would've been confirmed by Senate if it was needed?

I agree with everything in Kalyvas' post, except the "unimaginable" part. Anybody who did not see this coming (and a lot more that is coming) had zero imagination.

I have been wondering the same. I fly on this exact route from Minneapolis to Toronto, on these same planes every two weeks. Will fly again in a couple of days. I could have been in that plane today. How can you have 3-4 air accidents in less than a month??

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

Thread of my own work that has used data from Department of Education and columns that have focused on research funded by them 1/N Inequality in college graduation rates Uses data from Education Longitudinal Study, conducted by Department of Education www.nytimes.com/2015/06/02/u...

THREAD 🧵: A Concerning Trend in the Heterogenous-Agent (HA) Macro Literature 1/n A growing class of computational algorithms makes heavy use of linearization methods to solve HA models. Two key benefits are emphasized: (i) (extreme) speed & (ii) allows many state (aggregate) variables. ++ #econ

I agree. But sadly, I don't think they will. They all bent the knee.

Inequality Workshop Update! Note that the upcoming Inequality Workshop will now feature Stone Center Director @durlauf.bsky.social. He will explore how different concepts of merit shape policies, and the trade-offs between equality and efficiency. 🔗 Register here: bit.ly/4jwvJ94

Are econ folks using Threads? I keep getting nagged by Instagram to use it but not sure if it's worth the effort to join...

NEW POST: A Short story about "the Secret Master", as told by a wise teacher to a small group of Hogwarts students. (For young adults and those young at heart) journeyintopeace.squarespace.com/short-storie... #Hogwarts #Harrypotter #faith #God #Islam #Christianity #Judaism

One of the most informative & powerful books I read last year was Mother of Strangers, set around the 1948 Nakba in Palestine Highly recommend to have a deeper understanding of what's happening in Gaza now-including Israel's history of forced displacement (& controlled return) of millions of people

Perry and Rubinstein on Gaza: Link without paywall below

"It’s impossible not to know what’s happening in Gaza..."

Inside view of the Prophet (Muhammad)'s Mosque (in Madina, Saudi Arabia). It accommodates up to 1.5 million people, with its courtyard. It is so beautiful, clean, and peaceful that one has to see it in person to fully appreciate it. #Mosques #MEDINA

Second Post on "ABCs of Islam" is up. See below!! ABCs of Islam will be a series of short articles (3-5 minute reads) on the basic tenets of Islam and will try to address some controversies and common questions about Islam. I will post them on a new blog: journeyintopeace.com

Seems that the smaller is the plane, the bigger is the ego of flight attendants... 🙄

Idly wondering how come the inventor of Oreo cookies didn't get a Nobel for it... 🧐

I spend several hours a day on some days, working back and forth with ChatGPT and Claude. Once you get to know each other and understand their strength and weaknesses, they're a revelation. They brought the cost of an undergraduate RA or even a 1st-2nd year PhD RA down by 99%. Literally.
