One of the reasons that they do things like this is because oligarchy needs to keep itself popular enough in a democracy to keep getting elected, so they keep punching downward to get their voting supporters to have an underclass. It gets those supporters to identify with their own rulers.

I could quote a bunch of principle justifying my support for trans rights, but honestly? It's because I have friends who happen to be trans. People I've known for decades in some cases, often before they came out. I'd be pretty lousy as a friend if I didn't stand up to advocate for them.
