July 2023 in northern Italy is going to be dissected for years. So, here's a start featuring two of our best Pretemp members, regarding the record-breaking hailstorm of July 24th! rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

🌪️ Exceptionnelle trombe marine au large de Punaauia (Tahiti) à 13h heure Locale. Elle a été vue et photographiée par de nombreuses personnes ! Média local : www.radio1.pf/video-une-im... ENG : Exceptional waterspout off the coast of Punaauia (Tahiti). #WxSky #Météo #Trombe #Waterspout #Tahiti

It's so stupid that I can find a cemetery's parking lot surveillance video of a tornado on Tiktok rather than a school or a institutional building's one on any other platform or website. One day we will have proper identification of an uncertain event

That is quite a scar

The countryside between Comiso and Chiaramonte Gulfi, Sicily, could have had a small tornado yesterday. A damaged sheetmetal roof, some snapped branches and this plastic container that apparently ended up on a roof

Due to slow weather, I've barely been on the other platform and today I wanted to check it mainly for Pokèmon-related news (yes, I like Pokèmon)... and man I've never seen such a horrible feed, not even when the pandemic started. I feel so sorry for everyone who's losing their career in NOAA/NWS...

The final versions of all NTP 2024 Survey Summary Maps are now available. They are a great way to see damage survey investigation results, including the survey source data. The maps are available via the NTP Open Data Portal at uwo.ca/ntp and through the NTP Dashboard at uwo.ca/ntp/dashboard.

Our friends at Tornado in Italia published a little article regarding the data they collected from 2014 to 2024: 666 confirmed tornadoes, making for a yearly average of 60 events including landfalling waterspouts. Fortunately strong tornadoes (especially above I/F2) are very rare

Good thing I'm obsessed! I found this video of the Catania IF2 from January 17th. From that motion, it's a good thing it tracked through open country (as far as we know)

Thank you, random Lamezia Terme surveillance camera for catching a tornado that occurred in September 2012. Damage was suspicious, with a cyclonic pattern, and this video further reinforces its nature youtu.be/_XmHJgwbnZ4?...

Well, I know what to play with tomorrow

Severe hail fell in the Noto-Avola area of Sicily, some of it impacting the same areas struck by the IF2 tornado on January 17th

‼️ Las impactantes imágenes del paso de un tornado por Ayamonte, Huelva

Never I'd expected to find out that the same cell which produced a tornado in my hometown on July 6th 1999 produced a second one further northeast. The more you know

NTP's Annual Report for 2024 is now available! The 2024 Canadian tornado season started Mar 16 and ended Nov 10 - the longest on record since at least 1980. And the 129 tornadoes for the year comes second only to 2022 when there was 131. Press release and link: news.westernu.ca/2025/02/torn...

Quite a start for Europe this year, with already 5 IF2 rated tornadoes across the continent last month

Severe storms ongoing in eastern Sicily, double waterspout observed in the Messina strait. Video by Giovanni Micalizzi

I swear, this video of Musk spammed by apparently ALL of the NFT accounts on Twitter and marked as promoted content will be the death of my presence there more than anything else, and it'll be of pure rage

Today features a good looking shelf cloud between Livorno and Pisa, Tuscany

Monitoring a nighttime setup for Sicily coming up for Saturday-Sunday. Not saying it's going to happen... but...

Tumbleweeds go weeeeee

Japan's public broadcaster NHK caught a waterspout on one of its cameras on Wednesday morning local time. Judging by the reports of damage it looks like it had also been ashore for some time as well: www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20...

With the Avola-Noto tornado upgraded to IF2, the January 17th Sicily outbreak is the most impressive tornadic event in Italy during January to date, with longest path, most tornadoes and most (I)F2+ tornadoes, as well as the most single January tornadoes known. Luckily nobody was hurt

Augustanuary in Trieste (3rd and 4th images have increased contrast)

Average Juneuary continues

The Avola tornado will be upgraded to an IF2 tornado in the coming days

Just your average late January Italian fauna I see

Here is finally visual proof of the IF2 tornado that impacted the areas south of Catania, potentially going all the way to the restaurant near the Sigonella area. Video frames from TGR Sicilia

941.9 hPa at #Tiree in #StormEowyn - an all-time record low minimum for the site, beating the 944.7 on 9th February 1988.

This one will likely be upgraded to IF2 due to damaged steel power trusses

There have been a couple of reports of possible tornadoes from Cornwall. If you have any more information, please do let us know! A tornado risk continues across southern England for the coming few hours. This is distinct from any impacts of Storm Eoywn tomorrow.

Inauguration event for my Bluesky profile: last Friday's tornado outbreak in Sicily. As of this morning we confirmed 5 tornadoes in the southeastern portions of the Region, making this one an unprecedented event to a national level

A little appetizer for a post I'll be putting up tomorrow: the fifth confirmed tornado from a small outbreak which occurred last Friday in SE Sicily. This one is a doozy of an event. Video from Giuseppe Federico and shared by Claudio Ortega
