The field visit I am co-organizing for #aag2025 #aagdetroit --"(Co-)Fermenting place: How geography makes ferments what they are (and vice versa)--is finally up! Sign up now, spaces are limited (Tues, 3/25, from 4:30-6:30): aag.secure-platform.com/aag2025/soli... @geographers.bsky.social #geosky

Me and my daughter; she’s a fellow geographer! 🌎❤️🌎❤️

It seems to me the “special advisor to the President” is the one who is actually in charge.

Another plane crash???

Plans are coalescing and coming together and I am going to have one particularly busy day in early March wherein I give a talk on neo-temperance and "semi-sobriety" in the afternoon and then, that same evening, host a science education/outreach event at a bar in order to draw in attendees. #irony

I may have had too much coffee and/or maybe too much too fast. I can now see sounds and hear colors.

The news in the US continues to be alarming (to put it mildly). I am legitimately worried about this country. The division of powers enshrined in the constitution is in peril, even though that divison was designed specifically to prevent the kind of authoritarian takeover we are witnessing now.

Happy Monday! 🔥🗑️🔥🗑️🔥

#amwriting, as they say (reading is part of writing, I promise) #wine #geography #fermentedlandscapes

Well, as best I can tell, I rocked my Fulbright interview. Cross all your fingers and toes folks!

At least my cat is here to supervise as I update my CV and complete my annual review data entry tasks.

Why is putting together annual review material so tedious? (yes, it is due to tomorrow; yes, I have been putting it off!) On the upside, though, I thought I did have much to add but it turns out I do? I wish I could just say "Trust me--I've been keeping busy!"

So, (if) you've heard of "third spaces"...what of this emerging concept of "fourth spaces"? What say you, geographers? #geosky #geography #place #space #community

“If you’re asking me if I’m a natal male, I have no issue about admitting biology,” Ms. Wu [a transgender woman and a Democratic strategist] said in an interview. “The question is not, ‘Are trans women biological men?’ The question is, ‘Do trans women deserve dignity as your fellow citizens?’”

I am physically manifesting stress/anxiety in my body today and asking myself: Is this peri-menopause or the collapse of American society...or both?

“White House budget office orders pause in all federal loans and grants.” …can’t say I am loving the new regime.

55 days until #aag2025 (#aagDetroit), for those who are counting. 🤠 @geographers.bsky.social #geography #geosky

Art by my 16yo! (it has all my favorite things 🐈‍⬛🍷🌻☀️)

“We are maybe no longer ‘new’ or ‘emerging’ anymore, but we are quirky. We are still unknown, especially globally,” which is why is it so important for #Texas #wine to have a focused message for consumers about quality, authenticity, and the value of their wines. —Karen Bonarrigo, Messina Hof Winery

I cannot tell you how many times I have heard some version of this sentiment about Texas wine (beyond the person said this exactly to me yesterday): "Texas is not constrained by the same rules as elsewhere. It is the wild, wild west out here." The "wild west" or "pioneer" mentality…

Been quoted in @theatlantic.com as of today! #beer #geography #neotemperance www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

I wrote 750 words this week by encouraging/allowing myself to add a daily entry into “research journal”-style freewriting space for my book. 750 words is a far cry for the 60k I promised, but this exercise felt productive, so, while this book will not write itself, perhaps I can??

Currently “ruining my dinner” with some aged cheese and nice GSM. 🧀🍷 #worthit

ICYMI, check out my latest @forbes.com piece (from Dec 18, 2024) on #Texas #wine! www.forbes.com/sites/collee...

And today I wrote three MORE! #onedayatatime

At dark o’clock this morning in central Texas, while walking my 5yo to the bus, we caught the world’s tiniest (and most short-lived) snow ❄️ flurry!

I wrote three sentences of my book today. Better than zero!

Y’allllllll…A year+ of my research life has been encapsulated, finalized, and submitted to my project partners. AHHHH! This report represents ~a lot~ of hours of work and collaborative effort. Proud of my team and proud to have such AMAZING wine industry partners. Wowwww, what a year!

#runstreak day 150! 🥳 🤩 🏃🏼‍♀️ Time to take a break (or at least stop counting). 🤠

My Christmas gift to myself was two @forbes.com articles before Christmas. LOL Anyway, please enjoy this recap of a recent #wine country tour and some pointers on finding good #Texas wine! #geography #geosky www.forbes.com/sites/collee...

Oops, I forgot the hashtags: #geosky #geography #wine #sustainability

Please check out my latest @forbes.com piece, wherein I link Tablas Creek Vineyard's (@jasonchaas.bsky.social) laudable sustainability practices to those in Texas (among other things). Enjoy! www.forbes.com/sites/collee...
