Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵 In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians. We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties. with @julianachueri.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/1940...

Hot damn if this is as useful as it sounds 💘

A few thoughts on academic civility, the paradigm ceasefire, and the challenge posed to critical social psychology by the misdiagnosis of the replicability crisis. Based on the idea that the Harré quote below would be seen as terribly poor form if uttered by a prominent social psychologist today.

Untangling these issues is really hard but I do agree with the below — poor meta-science gaining traction (as it has already done in several fields) is or will be just as big a threat to science as anything else we face now

Outright dismissal of non-preregistered analyses/results is becoming an increasingly common form of lazy criticism that's troublesome. There's no other way of evaluating results than reading, questioning, assessing them against background assumptions, and carefully evaluating theory/measures/design.

p-circling (listing all p-values reported in a paper to highlight how close they are to a cutoff) is not proper scientific or statistical criticism, is a lazy way to dismiss the results of a paper, and is an outcome of statistical illiteracy and a lack of formation in modeling. There I said it.
