This is a really fun read if you like glimpses into historical scholarship very far away from what you usually do. The editors invite a range of historians to briefly present one article each from the EHR.

I like to insist on the fact that during their studies, the important things are not the products (essays, whatever...), but the paths taken to get there. But our evaluation schemes make it hard to get that point to stick.

imagine with me for a moment, a through the looking glass worldview where you say ‘who cares, if the tech can write a decent essay [jury still out!] why not just admit defeat, bye bye humanities’ no 👏 new 👏 ideas 👏 wtf are we even doing here, signing the death warrant of civilization itself

I've been saying this to my students when we discuss how history is a process of inquiry and interpretation, a form of active and critical thinking that proceeds by question-and-answer. History trains you to think originally and to create knowledge. The *best* genAI can do is commonplace or banal

Settler Colonialism and Collecting for Museums: The Namibia Collection in Bremen’s Übersee-Museum (1880s to 1970s)

Considering everything that's wrong with the world (and the fact that my students are off on reading week) I decided today was time for self-care in the form of sewing a carnival costume for the child to wear to crèche!

One of the things to know about edtech is that many, many people involved in it have no experience teaching, and particularly not at the grade level the intervention is designed to target. They’re tech guys who think tech is Very Hard and teaching is a skill-free avocation for ladies.
