Enrique is an irrigator in Salinas, CA. He's getting ready to water the young strawberry plants. "it's very important to water plants correctly as these young plants have shallow roots that dry out quickly. Proper watering gets the crop ready for the upcoming season." #WeFeedYou

Good job, Montana! All of the bills that threatened to make our Montana Supreme Court elections partisan have died. This happened because of public pressure from Montanans to ensure laws are applied equally to everyone! www.catalystmt.org

Blossom is so often overlooked when we choose a new apple tree, but as this wonderful montage from @thepackingshedtamar on IG shows, some varieties have especially beautiful flowers. Scent also varies greatly from variety to variety.

Is this Earth’s most important climate mystery? This new video from PBS Terra with Maiya May explores this question by looking at atmospheric river patterns.

Like delicate cherry blossoms dancing in the spring breeze, our time here is beautiful but brief. Why waste these precious moments building walls when we could be building bridges? Let's pause, breathe deeply, and allow joy to bloom in our hearts like flowers reaching for the sun.

Those who do not learn from the past...

Row of yampah (Perideridia gairdneri) coming up in the garden. First year only a few came up. This is year 2! Parsley family sometimes takes its time. Yampah is native to the western U.S. and some Canadian Provinces. Edible, starchy roots. powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:ls...

George HW Bush (R) got us mired in a recession. Clinton (D) got us out. George W Bush (R) got us mired in a recession. Obama (D) got us out. Trump (R) got us mired in a recession. Biden (D) got us out. Trump (R) is yet again ushering us into a recession. Starting to notice a trend?

Mentzelia decapetala growing on the Wild Horse Pryor lands in the southeastern part of Montana. Talk about a tough plant!

Another scullcap to grow is Scutellaria barbata. It's used much like American scullcap. Perennial.

I love Baikal scullcap, Scutellaria baicalensis. It's an important medicinal plant used in Chinese medicine. Loves it here in Zone 4. Perennial. Here's more about the medicinal properties. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

I love growing unusual plants. Here's the first time I've tried growing false hellebore, Veratrum viride. It's a native plant I collected seed from. Success!

Rhodiola rosea grows really well in the north. We're zone 4 and we get some pretty cold winters -40F. Though, covered in snow, here's a grandmother plant that's at least 5 years old. Just starting to wake up.

Yes, it's possible to grow Schisandra vines in the U.S. You might have to wait 3-5 years from the time you plant a potted plant, for them to fruit. Plant on East side with protection from West afternoon sun. They need a strong trellis, too.

che tree - mandarin melon berry in the same family as mulberry (Moraceae). Edible fruit. Medicinal too. Zone 5a and above. Ooooh! www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/...

Korean Nut Pine (Pinus koraiensis) scions that I will graft onto our native White Pine. This tree produces the pine nuts used in making pesto.

Remember how I was just posting about a Physalis longifolia (tomatillo) species? It's also on that idiotic Texas bill banning plants thought to be psychotropic. capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/...

See? THIS is why we need to use Latin names! The Texas mountain laurel (mescalbean) does NOT contain mescaline. Did no one check with at least Wikipedia?! These politicians are embarrassingly stupid. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦 see page 8 capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/...

BREAKING: Trump has paused tariffs for 90 days. Who could have seen this coming two days ago on Bluesky?

Yep! Stronger together.

Update! The senate at Indiana U-Bloomington has passed an identical resolution to the Rutgers Senate's calling for a Big Ten defense compact!! And the Rutgers Senate is meeting tomorrow in a special emergency session to plan next steps. Read their open letter to President Jonathan Holloway below.

One thing this misses is that they are very clearly targeting the remaining old growth forest sections of the National parks. These are not recoverable. These are essential ecosystems.

When Korean skin care arrived in the United States several years ago, it became the stuff of legend among beauty enthusiasts—both for its quality and price. New tariffs against South Korea could upend its affordability, @nancywalecki.bsky.social reports: https://theatln.tc/lrgFyUms

It's now safe (I think) to move the ocotillo plants (Foquieria splendens) into the greenhouse. They do appreciate a little fish fertilizer, I've found. These plants will drop their leaves several times a year, but are probably still photosynthesizing from their green stems. Easy to germinate!
