My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"? Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...

the Scottish Government should apply to appeal this ruling to the ECtHR

The law determines what is legal. It does not determine what is true; what is just; what is morally and ethically sound and defensible. The history of law is the history of the legal system being wrong on these grounds. Trans women are women.

Having excluded all trans people from proceedings before it, the Supreme Court decides in favour of For Some Women Scotland.

“The infrastructure was meant to help, but it’s ended up being anti-bike... they’re just in the way for people who want to use the parks and quiet paths” Cyclist slams “anti-bike” gates creating “low cycling neighbourhoods” instead of low traffic neighbourhoods

Today, tomorrow and always.

🧵For Women Scotland crowdfunded £230,000 for this trial. I am going to tell you as an actual feminist what £230000 pounds could have done for women in the UK. -Fund housing for women escaping gender violence for eg it could have paid two months of rent for about 160 women

Despite what a Supreme Court rules, Trans people have & will always exist. We must continue the fight for equality for trans women after this ruling - and fight the global wealthy elites wanting to erode rights across the world ✊️

Fundamentally the issue is clear: if I leave my home and choose the most polluting and antisocial form of transport my local authority makes this easy; if I try to be responsible, pro-social and healthy, my local authority makes this hard

Excellent podcast which debunks claims that a third runway will lead to UK economic growth...amongst other things. @flightfreeuk.bsky.social open.spotify.com/episode/65lp...

Whichever way this goes British transphobes will claim victory in the headlines so remember to stay cool, check to see what the court actually says, & remember that a crucial part of the issue here is Gender Recognition Certificates, which are very specific to the British legal system

“The United States, with its enormous highways, sprawling suburbs and neglected public transport systems, is one of the most car-dependent countries in the world. But this arrangement of obligatory driving is making many Americans actively unhappy, new research has found.” Via @theguardian.com

The "thoughts and prayers" of infrastructure.

I spoke to STV this evening about the supreme court ruling expected in the morning on the Gender Recognition and Equalities Acts. 👇

🟢 The importance of ecosocialist candidates in local government 🟢 Clydebank is a town mired in socialist, instrumental in the rise of movement of Red Clydeside. Why then, has this town consistently struggled to produce a socialist councillor in recent memory?

"Even where an election might not seem winnable for a socialist candidate, the opportunity to push those who are more likely to win to adopt real measures and address these issues is one we cannot afford to pass up."

With every passing day, Keir Starmer's fawning over Donald Trump as he handed him that state visit invitation looks worse. Scotland must stand shoulder to shoulder not with Trump's aggressively authoritarian regime, but with those being targeted by it.

Governments have badly let us down by ignoring the science, failing to cut carbon emissions, and refusing to end the destruction of our eco-systems. If we allow this to continue the costs will be incalculable.

Why Greens care about Grangemouth : a short thread based on a conversation with a friend last night. On its surface it may look like Greens would never care about jobs lost at oil refinery - we believe oil should be left in the ground right? But we do care…

“It is far too late in the #climate emergency to be building new roads. The Scottish Government should not be dualling the A9 while starving funds for public transport.” @lornaslater.bsky.social at #sgpconf

Do you think I could claim one of these on my Cycle To Work Scheme? Let’s see if 1.5m passing distance is “guidance” now, shall we? #30daysofbiking
