14 years ago I pitched what would become Polygon to a startup called Sports Blogs Inc on the unfurnished third floor of a DC townhome. I held a laptop on my knees and went through a deck. Today that same company -- now called Vox Media -- sold Polygon to Valnet.

Took about 5 minutes to put this together. It's not much but it's the least I could do to celebrate the work of these people. @plante.bsky.social please let me know if i forgot someone bsky.app/profile/did:...

I'm no longer with Polygon. If you're hiring, please consider the many talented writers and editors now on the market. Every one of them deserves a spot on your staff. I won't be talking more about the sale because I wasn't involved. Going to hang out with my kid. Taking wins where I can.

At the end of 2017, @plante.bsky.social asked me to edit a year-in-review section at Polygon. He was an indispensable partner. Looking back at it, I am really proud of it. Check out this list of designers and critics. I used to think we could have a world like this: www.polygon.com/2018/1/8/168...

It's clearer than ever that even the best media companies like Vox Media are hit by the current state of the industry. Jim (the CEO) clearly cares about this stuff so I knew the sale had to be done for a reason. Pour one out for Polygon 🙁

Sad news today, since Polygon got sold from a company that values high-quality journalism. I have a bad feeling about this.

This is so damning - Apple used its copywriting prowess to make the web itself sound unsafe www.theverge.com/apple/659296...

Watching @rose.bsky.team sharing the ins and outs of Bluesky. “Don’t build your business on rented space from landlords who don’t care about you”

had to stop my morning scrolling to read this and wow this piece brings a great point about the current state of the media and the Youtube podcasts situation www.vanityfair.com/news/story/e...

Interesting move, but I've been tuning to I/O every year mainly for Android news. Sure I love Gemini and use it, but the prospect of an even heavier focus on AI than last year is uuhhhh quite something.

What a gem of an episode 🥹 thanks for mentioning this one on the pod @davidimel.com I never truly gave Search Engine a chance but this episode sound straight from the Gimlet days. And Ira is as thoughtful and charming as ever! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i...

I've been interested in Slate, a new EV company that flew under the radar with interesting ideas ever since TechCrunch started to report on them. Let's see how this goes! I also need to give a shoutout to @seanokane.bsky.social the coverage has been stellar! techcrunch.com/2025/04/24/b...

Holy smokes I started using Claude on Android and the app is so polished and smooth 🥹 they even implemented predictive back animations. Way to go, Anthropic! ✨

Tired of featureless glass & metal phones? Good *lord* so am I – and so is Motorola. The new #Razr family leans even harder into CMF, with options across all three (!) models for faux leather or satin, Alcantara ... and WOOD! I've been waiting ten years for another wooden phone. Yes, really. More👇

✨Third time's the charm✨ jokes aside unironically the craziest headline of this year (so far lol) www.theverge.com/policy/65597...

@reckless.bsky.social it's probably broken and i don't believe you. These words have been a truth ever since you said it but it rings truer and truer every day.

Google Home keeps on stopping to cast for no reason whatsoever 🫠 we're back again

IOS did it first, Android did it first yes yes. One UI 7 took heavy inspiration for the "Now Playing" section from IOS and honestly it's so great. I don't have to open the notification bar anymore just to pause my podcasts.

Quick feature update! Verification is rolling out as we speak. Awesome!

Dreamy spring night blasting Daft Punk's Discovery. It can't get better than this.

Blue checks are coming to Bluesky! It's an interesting hybrid model that combines centralized verification (Bluesky says you're legit) with decentralized verification (an outside org says you're legit).

When the judge in charge of a Meta case hasn't used anything from the company i'm not so sure you have a chance lol

Thank you for that, Slackbot.

I can't wait for Google I/O and the Pixel 10 series later this year, but all I want is coral comeback 🪸🧡 Pixel team make it happen please 🥺🤞🏻

Google just lost the big adtech monopoly case -- safe to say the entire web economy changes after this. And probably Google, forever. www.theverge.com/news/650665/...

well, that's awkward! during the FTC v. Meta trial today, the gov showed a 2018 email in which Zuckerberg himself suggested spinning off Instagram into a "separate company"

Oneplus 9 was the first smartphone where they used the current camera layout. It's great to see them experiment with something new, looks great 🙂

Tech execs declaring all-out war on creators who don’t want their life’s work pillaged for profit

Got the new poster framed up! @madeon.net huge fan, can't wait to hear the new era ✨

omg what's up with this new Google Discover design 😭 it's so much worse now 😭

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me & through me & when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Overall, I really like One UI 7 on the Galaxy S24. New design cues are overall well implemented, very smooth and the vertical app drawer is great! Just wish we had the natural language search option 🥲

It's finally here in Europe too!

president tweeted "no hot dog" and i lost $5 trillion dollars but today he tweet "hot dog back" and i got 5 trillion hot dog

They said my artisanal hand-carved semiconductor business would never be viable but who’s laughing now?

Wait weren't we supposed to get Instagram Edits by now?

SCOOP: Jeff Bezos funded a secretive EV startup called Slate Auto based in Michigan, and I've got all the details. It's working on a low-cost EV pickup truck and has attracted investment from the owner of the LA Dodgers. The result of a year-long investigation. techcrunch.com/2025/04/08/i...

Listening to this week's Vergecast episode on Apple Podcasts through a progressive web app. The future of the web is bright @reckless.bsky.social @davidpierce.xyz

I'm excited to see @skylight.social take off! I would love to also join but at the moment it doesn't seem to be available in Europe. 🥲

oh my god we knew tariffs were bad but this is just bonkers
