The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Survuving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson filipmagnuswrites.wordpress.com/2025/05/26/t... via @filipmagnus.bsky.social

Crazy that ny government would enshrine the criminality of AI language models while tying its own hands behind its back.

An excellent review of Nina Allan’s latest by David!

Amazing anthology, so many good authors - one of my own best stories in it too.

You can't be pro-unions and also pro-AI. AI is the ULTIMATE scab.

The Gods Below by Andrea Stewart filipmagnuswrites.wordpress.com/2025/05/14/t... via @filipmagnus.bsky.social

THE POWER FANTASY #11 is out in August. Talk to your retailer. Things explode. "We said this is a comic where fighting was the lose state. We’ve kept that promise. We didn’t say anything about murder."

I wonder how many Labour position documents right now are framed around this paper?

Returned to the Dresden Files this week with Grave peril on audio after six years. Enjoyed it. A significantly better work than book 2, much to my joy. Not overlong either, which is always welcome.

I choose to believe this is who started the fire.

Finished the first draft of the Tolkien paper, cleaned it up a bit. Needs some additions, but first I’ll write the abstract, send it in for the conference, and give it a rest. But aaaaaaa it’s turned out rather well, hasn’t it.

Shout out your favorite resources for creating #ttrpg art and imagery that are *not* gen AI! Whether it's artists who provide stock art, a repository of CC-BY images, or a directory of public domain works, drop your faves in the replies! We'll start: Smithsonian Open Access www.si.edu/openaccess

I read Moonchild by Aleister Crowley and I cannot sufficiently recommend that you don't

The Paradox Paradox by Daniel Hardcastle In 500 or so years the galaxy is at peace. Eight species – one of them human, the rest very much not – have spent centuries working, living and learning together, creating a galaxy-wide utopia known as the Affinity. Poverty has been eradicated, violence is…

One of the most imaginative ttRPGs out there. Also the most trauma-inducing (in a good way)!

Time for a new pinned post. I'm Kieron Gillen, and I'm primarily a comics writer. My latest collaborations are The Power Fantasy (ongoing) and We Called Them Giants. You can find more about them here.... TPF: bindings.app/shelf/1FLv6k... Giants: bindings.app/shelf/1FLv6k...

Broke my academic writing record with another 1.3k words added to the Tolkien paper. Have a new angle on the title and introduction, too. Sock with obsession, wild with excitement, shoot me dead, still won’t stop me.

I had no idea samurai in feudal Japan were that dedicated to troubleshooting Flash

Another 1k words down on this paper on Tolkien adaptations in the ttrpg sphere. Had to scramble my brains in order to describe all the various visual elements what act as framing to The One Ring 2e books. Next session can finally be all about how the game’s text uses Tolkien’s text.

one thing I’ve learned from being a hobby drama obsessive over the years is that within any group, no matter how niche or marginalized or progressive, there is someone who thinks they’re Sephiroth

A Thousand Blues by Cheon Seon-ran filipmagnuswrites.wordpress.com/2025/05/12/a... via @filipmagnus.bsky.social

Monstrous

Not me obsessing over this Tolkien paper. Definitely not going to spend another ten hours straight on it with only the occasional brain-rotting social media pause. Sanity check who?

Never been happier to go with my gut than when I picked up Cheon Seon-ran's A THOUSAND BLUES, a #scifi novel of the near future. This, to me, was a pitch-perfect novel. Gorgeous prose, beautifully translated. And so, so much more. Video: youtu.be/17nUxLyxGC0 Text: wp.me/p8LkPa-32b

Self-published Authors Appreciation Week is coming up! Come read more and see how you can be involved. Let's shine the spotlight on some awesome self-published books!! #SelfPublishedAuthorsAppreciationWeek #selfpublished #Booksky #Bookbloggers #selfpublishedauthors #indieauthors

"LEVEL: ASCENSION continues to expand its world in interesting ways, but the plot was overwhelmed by the sheer number of fight sequences." My review of the latest LitRPG adventure in the LEVEL: UNKNOWN series! realmsofmymind.wordpress.com/2025/05/12/r...

Worldbuilding Tip 12: Making your elements both universal and unique is key. The people, creatures, places, etc. need to represent the world and its stories, while also being relatable on their own level. The temple priest needs to be both a representative of the ethos and a recognizable individual.

The cost of Grok: "I can't breathe at home, it smells like gas outside. How come I can't breathe at home and y'all get to breathe at home?"

Started the Devils before bed. Must not read all night long, must not—ah, screw it.

Obsessed with this tome, and happy to see I’m far from alone in this.

We Called Them Giants is a triumph of storytelling in the graphic novel medium. @kierongillen.bsky.social and @stephaniehans.bsky.social's latest collaboration is intimate, beautiful, and polished like few other comic books I've read. Read it! Video: youtu.be/BRQ6agxcWFw Text: wp.me/p8LkPa-31Z

This is huge news for ttRPG fans interested in a carefully researched, erudite history of the medium. I just discovered Shannon Appelcline’s work over the last few weeks while working on an intersectional paper about Tolkien and adaptations of LotR in this medium; Designers and Dragons is a gift.

Episode 2, discussing Bishop's The Etched City, is now out, and on our Patreon site patreon.com/StarshipAlexandria we have our second bonus episode for paying patrons, talking about the film Aliens, starring Bishop. So many bishops you could have a conclave.

I'm continuing my #Dragonlance side quest with a review of Flint the King by Mary Kirchoff and Douglas Niles. This book takes place in the years right before the events of the Chronicles. Come see what I thought! #Bookblogger ##Booksky #BookReview #FantasyBooks

Happy book birthday to THE DEVILS! I called it "another fantastic fantasy novel featuring that signature blend of Abercrombie: violence, crassness, and a host of memorable characters." Full review below!

Obsessed with this paper I’m writing on ttRPGs and Tolkien adaptations in the medium.
