"But what if..." When you only see obstacles along the way, nothing seems possible. But if you look beyond, you will see that nothing is IMpossible!

Cycling in the Netherlands is a social activity like no other. Made possible by infrastructural planning and design. Why wait until you get to your destination while you can have a great time with friends along the way too?!

I asked my kids about the best day of the week. Turns out to be new bike day! #newbikeday

Real kings ride bicycles and won't bother congestion pricing!

"Does this ring a bell for you yet?" Campaign video from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure to encourage people to take the bike instead of the car for short trips.

What would a TV ad promoting alternatives to driving look like? What if people who love cycling and progressive transportation reclaimed ideas like freedom, independence and even patriotism? We decided to give it a shot. Check out our new video, "America, It's Just Like Riding a Bike."

"This is fine" #Motonormativity

The Amsterdamsestraatweg, the longest commercial- and residential street in Utrecht, is getting a make over from 'facade to facade'. When finished, traffic speed is limited at 30 km/h and pedestrians, cyclists and greenery will have more space. The end result is already visible on some places.

Please enjoy these thirty seconds of rush hour traffic and remember: Cities aren't loud, motorized traffic is loud!

We all know #CarBloat or 'autobesity'. But let me introduce a positive counterpart: Bike lane bloat: the increasing widening of cycling infrastructure to accommodate the rising number of cyclists in city streets. 🚲 πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Give people dignified alternatives to driving, and they'll surprise you. πŸ“ Utrecht, the Netherlands πŸ“Έ Great image by @filmendefietser.bsky.social

New research by @cpbnl.bsky.social shows the importance of building cycling infrastructure for the urban environment: βœ…οΈNumber of commuters who cycle to work increased (+ 350,000) βœ…οΈAverage distance to work decreased (-6%) βœ…οΈCycling infrastructure replaces car lanes without extra traffic jams 1/3

Rush hour in the 4th largest city in the Netherlands 🚲 This is one of the busiest junctions in Utrecht, a city with a population of over 350,000. Captured by @filmendefietser.bsky.social

Cycling infrastructure = equitable infrastructure. It not only serves people cycling, it also offers a safe and convenient option for people that, for whatever reason, don't cycle or drive, but rely on adapted transport to get around independently.

Curious about what a 'duofiets' is? How the Dutch Fietsmaatjes program makes cycling even more inclusive and how we organize that in Utrecht? How it helps fighting loneliness and health problems such as obesity and lack of exercise? Then tune in this Wednesday!

PREMIERE ALERT: Please plan to tune in later this week on Wednesday, February 12th at 2 pm EST for an introduction by @filmendefietser.bsky.social to the Fietsmaatjes Utrecht program, learn about their special Van Raam side-by-side bike/trike, and as a bonus go for a trial ride youtu.be/dBdzFrkw31I

It's matchday, so a free and guarded pop-up bike parking is being installed on a field next to the stadium, facilitating hundreds of fans who will visit the match by bike. #FCUtrecht

Road diet: a technique in transportation redesign whereby the number of lanes of a road is reduced. The results when done right? βœ…οΈ reduced traffic speed βœ…οΈ less sound pollution βœ…οΈ more greenery βœ…οΈ higher level of pedestrian and cyclist safety through raised, continuous and prioritized paths

Five reasons why you should keep cycling, especially in winter: πŸ“‰ Reduces stress and anxiety 😀 Increases self-esteem πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Promotes relaxation πŸ’€ Improves sleep quality πŸ“ˆ Boosts mood

Because the density of car infrastructure is too high!

You can call them what you want, but that doesn't change a thing. The only solution is FEWER cars!

Timeline cleanser. Seems appropriate today. 🌈

When the Dutch build bike parking facilities, they don't 'just' build them. They build pieces of art. Like the IJboulevard parking at Amsterdam Central Station. The parking not only offers space for 4,000 bikes, it also houses two copies of famous paintings that are actually in the Rijksmuseum.

Imagine the level of noise pollution if this was a rush hour with the same amount of traffic, but then cars..

Good morning Utrecht! πŸ””πŸ””πŸ””

Utrecht during the day and in the evening. 🀩🀩🀩

Me on a sunny Saturday: Let's take the bike to go to town and enjoy the nice weather. 🚲🚲🚲 Others on a sunny Saturday: Let's get in the car, so we can join the traffic jam and maybe even have some time left for shopping and to enjoy the nice weather. πŸš™πŸš—πŸ›»πŸš•

The early bird catches the worm 🀩🀩

⛔️ Permanently closed ⛔️ This road in Utrecht will become a park, connecting a new residential area with the existing neighborhood on the other side of the road. The park will provide space for nature, water storage, cooling and play areas. Car traffic is guided around the new residential area.

Bicycle underpasses are an important ingredient of Dutch cycling infrastructure. This underpass in Utrecht, opened in 2020, allows cyclists on a busy main cycling route to cross a two-way street and double bus lane on a safe and convenient way, without causing any delay.

No, this is not a new bicycle parking at a large Dutch railway station. It is the bicycle parking underneath the new school building of a secondary school in Utrecht, with over 1,000 students. This is how you facilitate and stimulate kids (and their parents!) to choose for active travel!

And another one... This time a drunk driver parked in the bike parking πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ www.rtvutrecht.nl/nieuws/38450...

Better vibes, higher capacity and no traffic lights inside. That's the real future of transport!

Everyday Dutch 'problem': trying to make a left turn at the bicycle junction.
