Mākereti Papakura, the first indigenous woman to study at Oxford, will receive a posthumous degree more than 100 years later. Born in Aotearoa NZ in 1873, she enrolled in 1922 to read Anthropology at Pitt Rivers but died in 1930 just weeks before she was due to present her thesis. bit.ly/4jssajG

I left Spain just before the lights went out, and have only now heard from my still-holidaying mother that she's fine and wasn't e.g. in an elevator when the power failed. She had a book and the waiters kept her glass topped up, which frankly sounds like #goals.

I was joking yesterday about polaramory, but I do actually have a Famous Emotional Support Dead Guy and he has nothing to do with #FranklinExpedition. He's Bob Bartlett. He was brave and principled. And no captain ever left his dying ship (the Karluk) as stylishly as he did in January 1914.

This is true. I have 129 dead emotional support guys and another 200 or so equally dead emotional support guys who went looking for the original 129 extremely dead guys. It's called polaramory.
