A privilege to preach at evensong at New College Oxford yesterday evening. I was rather grateful that I didn't know beforehand that Tom Wright was in the congregation. Good to be reminded of the historic links between St Peter Mancroft and New College through St John Maddermarket.

What a powerful opening to the @christianaiduk.bsky.social Watch Party. Delighted to be joining from @norwichcathedral.bsky.social Thank you Christian Aid for reminding us of The Unstoppable Power of Hope.

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.” Absurd we still need to go through this 🧪👩‍🔬

Looking serene in the afternoon light, the high altar at St Peter Mancroft in Lenten array. I love the simplicity.

It's good to see a principled response to the devastating cuts to the aid budget. And good to hear @labourlewis.bsky.social speaking out on #WATO today. Cutting the aid budget does not make us safer or more secure. It is cruel and short sighted.

It was wonderful to welcome the Coat of Hopes to St Peter Mancroft yesterday, to hear some of the stories that it carries, and to pray with the pilgrims walking with it. A beautiful, holy garment fashioned with love and grief, anger and despair, hope and thanksgiving. www.coatofhopes.uk

Re-reading Francis’s encyclicals, and there are some true bangers. Fratelli tutti, man. “…true love for an oppressor means seeking ways to make him cease his oppression; it means stripping him of a power that he does not know how to use, and that diminishes his own humanity and that of others.”

Once again I find myself appalled and asking, what or who is the Labour Party for? It's certainly not for the poor and the marginalised, the persecuted or the dispossessed here or abroad.

Our response to the PM’s announcement on cutting INT'L aid: 'Marginalised communities are facing a dramatic poverty crisis. These cuts—a political decision echoing Trump’s race to the bottom on aid—are a betrayal that will erode trust & fan the flames of global insecurity.'

An invitation for 18-35 year old from @dioceseofnorwich.bsky.social to join me on a pilgrimage to Taizé this July.

Pollinator numbers in the UK are dropping rapidly - a butterfly emergency was called last year. This is partly due to how much pesticides we use - but it doesn’t have to be this way. France has banned pesticides from towns and cities, and many other European nations are trying to do the same.

Just had the most inspiring Zoom call with Archbishop Dr Jackson ole Sapit of Kenya - he tells me that the Anglican Church of Kenya has planted 8 million trees in the last 3 years to mark baptisms, confirmations, birthdays, ordinations, weddings and funerals. Incredible achievement.

The ceasefire deal requires Israel to allow 60 000 temporary homes and 200 000 tents into Gaza. So many are waiting at the crossing but so far only 20 000 tents have entered.

Lengthy interview with the booksellers of Jerusalem arrested and then released this week by Isreal police. A darkly comic account of an inept operation. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

I am appalled by the inhumanity of this government.

We are deeply disturbed to hear that our friends Mahmoud and Ahmed Muna, brothers who run the two Educational Bookshops in East Jerusalem have been taken and are being held by Israel security forces. Their whereabouts are not yet known.

“It became clear that no one was willing to address the fundamental question: how could continued arms sales to Israel possibly be legal? The Foreign Office’s handling of these issues is nothing short of a scandal. Officials are bullied into silence.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Grateful for all those who serve on #GeneralSynod Hoping that the discussions this week will be characterised by grace, humility, and an intention to listen and learn. #CofE

Where is your outrage @primeministeruk.bsky.social @labourlewis.bsky.social at this threat to international law? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I've just finished reading the beautiful book Raising Hare by @chloedalton.bsky.social A deeply moving and tender account of a wild creature consenting to share their life with a human being, opening up a relationship with the natural world.

The United Methodist in support of Bishop Mariann Budde: the role of the bishop is to be a prophetic voice for justice in a suffering and conflicted world. They cite the prophetic tradition of Amos: let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an everflowing stream". #CofE

Nizam Mamode writes of his deep sense of shame and embarrassment that "the UK government, a Labour government that I campaigned for, has refused to actively condemn Israel for the war crimes it has committed and continues to supply it with arms." Any comment @labourlewis.bsky.social

Homily written. Tuning in to the rugby, in hope if not in expectation. Cheered by the dulcet tones of @mrandrewcotter.bsky.social and an early try. #SixNations #Scotland

"A growing suspicion looms that our government lacks a coherent governing philosophy or ideological compass beyond the vague pursuit of “growth”." @labourlewis.bsky.social I'd say it's confirmation of what many of us suspected well before the election. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I'm sorry that I can't find the person who posted this prayer on Bluesky yesterday. I'm making it my prayer tonight - thanks for offering the words I'm too tired and angry to find .

A lovely metaphor for Anglicanism at it's best - a vessel for God's grace in which our poor offerings are transformed to reveal God's love. livingchurch.org/theology/the... #CofE #Anglican

Stop worrying about bats and newts? No Rachel Reeves MP – start worrying about the future of our economy if we tear down the nature it depends on. Nature isn’t a blocker; it’s the foundation of growth.

Our NHS is not for sale. Trade talks with Trump must not open the door to US healthcare companies profiting from our NHS. Keir Starmer must protect our NHS by keeping it off the table during negotiations. Join me by adding your name to 38 Degrees’ petition:

Bishop Budde's sermon brought to mind God of the Magi by Cole Arthur Riley, 'When given the choice between the oppressive force of the empire and their responsibility to protect the life and dignity of the vulnerable, they listened to maker and not man. Would you preserve their story in us.' Amen.

The ceasefire went into effect as announced by Qatar at 8.30am Israel kept killing. Remember that as the headlines spin. And stay with the life of the stubborn sumud with the JoyRageRelief of the survivors

Of the great novels I have read in the past year, it is the ending of Cahokia Jazz by Francis Spufford that I find myself thinking of unexpectedly. A thoughtful exploration of race, identity and faith that I keep coming back to.
