It's Native American Heritage Month! To my Native Creatives who will be flooded with last minute requests from non-Native orgs for speaking opportunities, double....TRIPLE your rates. They had all year to think and plan about what they were going to do for Native American Heritage month.

Everyone's entitled to one good scare, but why settle for one when you can have 24 when you play Indigi-Horror Book bingo! How many of these Native Horror books have you read? Let us know down in the replies and tag a friend to see how many they've read! #nativehorror #indigisky #booksky #nativesky

Save this for Sunday.

Help us keep publishing! Get a cool coin!

Since NaNoWriMo is ruined now, I suggest we do OctoWriMo, a month where we teach an octopus to write a novel and eventually it rises up and rules over all of us.

Reminder as they send out their "Get excited!" emails that NaNoWriMo has fully embraced AI, is sponsored by an AI editing software, and in fact has declared it "ableist and classist" to be against AI.

NaNoWriMo? No, I'm participating in NaNoHoMo, a month where we invent new, novel ways to be gay.

I should probably make a pinned post here so Hello, I'm Phoenix (he/him)! I'm a queer, trans, neurodivergent, and disabled writer currently working on my first novel, and this is my account for posting about writing and books in general (though it will probably not be limited to just that)!

Intro time again! Hi, folks! I'm a Goth & Gothic novelist! I write Gothic, Gaslamp Fantasy & non-fiction on the importance of ghost lore. Latest: A Haunted History of Invisible Women. Next: America's Most Gothic: Haunted History Stranger than Fiction. AND I run this shop: torchandarrow.etsy.com

My husband and I are moving so we can save money while I’m looking for work, but of course moving isn’t cheap either, so if anyone wants to send a cup of coffee or two, that would truly help ♥️ ko-fi.com/rjcrunden

Accessibility is important. Don’t use URLS or hashtags; screenreaders will spit out gobbledygook. If you for whatever reason are unable to provide alt text, you can use the hashtag alt4me and a volunteer will write it for you. At least doing that goes a long way. Don’t get caught careless.

⛵ It's THE SEA SPIRIT FESTIVAL release day! 🍡 Stop by a local festival and discover the unusual customs of this gorgeous coastal city ... and the darker things lurking underneath! Core elements: - Queer Fantasy Novella - Aro, Ace, NB - Found Family claudiearseneault.com/the-sea-spir... 💙📚 🌈📚

NYPD dep. commish says he “found a book on terrorism” at Columbia. From the Oxford UP website, the book answers the questions, “What is terrorism? Is it war? Is democracy especially vulnerable to terrorist attacks? What can we do to stop it?” This is how you seed a genocide-justifying moral panic.

GOOD JOB EVERYBODY, KEEP GOING

“It’s horror,” McCain told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview to air Sunday. “There is famine — full-blown famine — in the north, and it’s moving its way south.” www.huffpost.com/entry/united...

The entire point of a protest is to disrupt regular activities. That's the reason protests are effective - because that disruption forces people to pay attention to whatever they're protesting for. Without that, it's not a protest.

I think the hardest thing for most writers to come to terms with is that there's no One Secret Trick That Will Get You a Book Deal. If there was one, publishing would look very different. (Or maybe very the same.) You just gotta keep trucking.

FRIEND: didn’t your dad ever teach you to throw a ball ME: of course *20 years earlier* My dad: the waltz is always in fashion

the thing about "are audiobooks reading" discourse is they tend to assign moral value to the concept of reading, which is not an activity that actually magically makes you a good person. the reason that we teach children that reading is good is because it is a skill not because it's a moral value

Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?" So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

Audiobooks are one of the most lovely parts of living in the future. They are both a personal delight and an important part of how I regulate my emotions.

70s? And 80s and 90s too... all this shit was happening my whole damn life

Hey this is your occasional reminder that a new, proudly Palestinian-owned small press is still crowdfunding for year one! Rose and Jasmine Press needs your support! www.indiegogo.com/projects/ros...

Things are Extremely Tough for me right now, but one thing I can still do is words. I’m an editor with a decade of experience, and passionate about helping authors. If you want to work with me on your query package, short story or novel, my rates are below, please reach out.

It's cute how the guy who will make billions off of other people's work unironically states that AI is meeting the needs of anyone but people developing AI. We don't "need" it... and we certainly don't need it badly enough to let him steal to produce it.

My little sister is in college right now and is in need of money for expenses, so she has opened up commissions! Get one from her and have the satisfaction of helping a starving artist AND getting some cool art (maybe of Shrek?)

It’s kind of funny to me that in a time when Oppenheimer is one of the most talked about, heralded films of the year, we’re also watching AI proponents basically say, “We have to, because we can.” As if the lesson of Oppenheimer’s public life isn’t that we should more fervently ask “Should we?”

Can highly recommend these books! THE CROWS is one of my all-time favs and I've lost count how often I've listened to the audiobook of it (it's my confort read 💜) 📢📚💙🌈📚👀

💙📚 Recently read Feed Them Silence by Lee Mandelo and it was really good, highly recommend if you're looking for a short read that will have you still thinking about it for days after.

I think some people get so used to having their traumas dismissed that they start needing to view themselves as the most traumatized, the least understood, the most oppressed because they've internalized the idea that anything less isn't worthy of being taken seriously, creating a vicious cycle.

Got this idea for a meme and had to make it #WritingCommunity

Long COVID Rate in Africa Is Almost 50% of Cases, Researchers Warn | Dec 2023 "Nearly 50 percent of the people included in this meta-analysis exhibited long COVID symptoms. This finding reinforces the critical significance of this emerging condition." #longCOVID #COVID19

Chickadee-dee-dee!

I'm going to be more direct today. I need money. Buy my book. A lot of people have enjoyed my book, and I enjoy having money. So you see how this is a win-win. Buy my book. Please and thank you.

The results from the world’s largest Universal Basic Income study are now in. Findings: “A monthly UBI empowered recipients and did not create idleness. They invested, became more entrepreneurial, and earned more. The common concern of “laziness” never materialized.”
