The híɫzaqvḷa word of the day is ɫáɫa! A boogeyman / cryptid who kidnapped children & put them in a big thorny backpack. When I was a kid, I was told if I was naughty, he'd feed me my own eyes. (dang, we really need an edit option, holy) www.firstvoices.com/hailzaqvla/k... Also, #landback

Federal and Haida leaders signed a historic agreement Monday recognizing Aboriginal title over the archipelago of Haida Gwaii off British Columbia's northern coast.

Appreciate this approach!

Sending #valentines wishes out in advance - we could always use a few extra days filled with #love ❤️ #valentinesday #bemyvalentine #heart

One week after the father of the late Jordan River Anderson spoke out, Jordan's Principle continues to be in the news for the services not being funded – or for the questionable services it is funding. Our Truth & Politics panel is here to discuss.

FYI BC Relations!

It is a new month, and for some that means winter is at it's peak in storms, extreme cold and mountains of snow yet to shovel. Let us "melt the ice in our hearts" (Angaangaq - Shaman, and traditional healer) and continue on our personal healing journey. This will create more compassion for everyone

FYI Vancouver Island Residents!

This is a truth we need!

This is the stance we, the Sovereign First Nations of Turtle Island, need to take. Merely being a "pawn" in settler political disputes is not in our interests. We are busy nation building and re-establishing our ways and languages. Keep rising 7th generation! Love, First Nation Social Workers

People need to start paying attention to the family of Jordan River Anderson!

Hello First Nation Social Workers! I have information and a survey to share! it's a short film about organ donation and living organ donation to raise awareness within Indigenous communities. Click on the link for more information: www.surveymonkey.com/r/ISNfilm202...

This is a serious matter. All First Nations peoples have been affected by the RSS and those murdered or missing whilst attending it needs to be addressed!

Happy New year to all! Can't wait to see what 2025 brings, and hope we start it in a good way! We are the new ancestors. Let's show the world how much of an impact we make for the better. Our Next 7 generations should look at our actions as historical! Love. First Nation Social Workers

Merry Christmas to those celebrating it today ❤️

Please support my friend, Jerleen Anderson-Sullivan, who wrote a book about Jordan River Anderson (her brother) and her mother: goodminds.com/products/jor...

Fighting First Nations children too...

Building into a draft book manuscript these days. Essentially, my focus will be there right now! I will wish you all a wonderful holiday season and take care of yourself and your family and friends. Hope to one day create a book with different stories with our First Nations social workers!

Being an Urban First Nations person is sometimes difficult. Some of us had to work twice as hard to overcome barriers with almost zero support or family. Hoping this season sees us helping each other more, because it is difficult to begin believing in yourself if your all alone. Remain humble!

Big shout out to our First Nations' students who are, or nearly, finished their first semester of their social work program! Your accomplishments matter and we are all here to support you!

Stop centralizing all decisions within your purposely understaffed departments...

Hoping my fellow social workers know that it is okay to take those designated breaks, including lunch! If we deplete ourselves, then we cannot be competent in our field. Our decision-making and ability to critically analyze will be greatly compromised if we don't take time for ourselves too 💟

Keeping an eye out on the development of this!

Stop shying away from thinking highly of, or wanting more for yourself. Settling costs your soul.

Something we as First Nation social workers should reflect in, since we are political by our very profession! www.tiktok.com/@grassrootst...

This hit close to home. This is true for most of our First Nation artists. In fact, it is said that art, music and ceremony all saved our knowledge keepers and Elders. Our youth are also discovering thee beauty of creativity. Remember your clientele's whole needs and reevaluate approaches.

Baked some fresh homemade gingerbread cookies last night. It reminded me of that little girl happy for the day her Christmas hamper arrived with the sponsors - the wealthy of Vancouver, BC. After the boxes of food were placed in the kitchen of the subsidized apartment, there was the cookie given!

Hello, Some of my followers on my facebook account for this page asked about how to write a formal complaint. This is to advocate for the growing off-reserve members excluded from all forms of financial distributions, i.e., Christmas. It is formatted for an email. Hope it helps!

Feeling Christmas coming closer, and where I live that includes the reality of no cards or gifts being sent to family and relations. There is a Canada Post Strike. Wish we lived in a society where our real workers were paid equitable salaries to avoid the need of striking in the first place.

Very happy to share a Global News coverage of the Mi'kmaq Maliseet (Wolastoqiyik) Bachelors of Social Work program from St. Thomas University. Optimistic for our new First Nations SWs! They address important topics that impact First Nations across Turtle Island: globalnews.ca/video/109022...

My sincere thank you to all who change their teaching methodology to be more engaging and relatable to their students! Hope to see more thinking "outside the box" for our children and youth to excel in school. This could be adapted to any disciple and could even merge culture/language...

Love this! As Social Workers it is our duty to always remain self-aware.
