Vaccination schedules on the CDC website have already started changing under RFK Jr. So we published a guide to the evidence-based vaccine recommendations in place *before* all 17 members of the advisory panel were abruptly dismissed by the new admin. www.scientificamerican.com/article/see-... 🧪

The choice when writing up your paper: you can work really hard so that someone else can quickly understand what you did, or you can do it very quickly so that the others will need to work really hard to figure out what you did, unless they simply give up trying..

Alright I have a question for *all of you*, esp for those of you who are not into environment stuff. When you think about planting native plants in the area you control, what *prevents* you from taking that action? These could be emotional, financial, practical, anything. RTs appreciated here.

May every single human being on this planet be safe. May every single person be protected from harm. May we bring into being a time in which we are all free from those who do evil— together, speedily and in our days.

Do you LOVE organelles?? Well I am THRILLED to announce that Nellie has been published in @naturemethods.bsky.social! Nellie a fully automated pipeline for organelle segmentation, tracking, and hierarchical feature extraction in 2D, 3D, timelapse, multichannel live-cell microscopy 🧵1/N

when you discover new tools and ideas via biorixv, sometimes you don't even notice when it is published, some great stuff here : www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Today is Juneteenth, an opportunity to reflect on Black history and celebrate emancipation and freedom in the US. In this 2023 Cell piece, Black scientists talk about what Juneteenth in STEMM means to them. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... doi.org/10.1016/j.ce... #Juneteenth #BlackInSTEM

The all-or-nothing framing is how you know it’s a scam. Whether it’s issued by a man at a bar or a sales rep at a tech demo it’s the same truth. People who don’t want you to THINK before you act ARE STEALING FROM YOU. Where is everyone’s survival skills??

The news really sucks today. Instead of boosting a harmful Supreme Court decision, here’s something better: a practical guide on how to support the LGBTQ+ youth in your life. Because they deserve our attention, our protection, and our love. 💖🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 www.thetrevorproject.org/resources/ar...

Congratulations, Crystal!!! 🎆

Congratulations, Chrystal!!! 🎆

I know what I'm buying my family for Christmas this year!

“Historically, no one lived past age 35” "I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"

😥

Hey, I’m looking for a bachelor level textbook on Synthetic Biology (ok for students with basic molecular biology knowledge): any suggestions please?? Perhaps @atinygreencell.bsky.social ?

Announcing an official fundraising campaign to support my lab’s research on APOE4 and Alzheimer’s disease: joinus.cuimc.columbia.edu/participant/.... This campaign is itself an experiment of sorts. But mostly, it's an attempt to save my lab during an unprecedented time of turmoil in academia. 1/9

The No Kings protest map will help you find a place to exercise your First Amendment rights this weekend. (It's also a pretty good argument against the Electoral College.) www.nokings.org

Schedule for #BlackSpaceWeek 2025! Links to register coming soon🤭 Which event/panels pique your interest? 👀

NIH SRAs, POs, and staff are super heroes!!!

Hey Cell and Developmental Biologists. This is an excellent survey that will really help the @biologists.bsky.social journals improve their interactions with authors, reviewers and readers--take a moment and fill it out!

"The scientific research base of the United States of America *is* the research university. We made that decision 80 years ago. We don't have a Plan B." — Condoleezza Rice

There’s a really good science community on TikTok. Mainly undergrads and PhD students. Lots of room for faculty to get on there and post about what our lives are like and how science is being dismantled.

I have spent less time in the last several months doing science than I have during my entire career, because so much of my time is taken up dealing with Federal dysfunction. So if Lynne Partner wants scientists to get back to doing science, I have some suggestions.

Talked to @KateZernike at @nytimes about my journey and the current moment for scientists in the U.S. “Ardem Patapoutian’s story is not just the American dream, it is the dream of American science.” Read the article here. No subscription required: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/u...

Watching people interact on here, I see how we collectively have ended up in the nightmare we’re in. We have smart educated people refusing to empathize with people who have less education, time, money, & general resources, expecting them to perform at a high level to move forward/fix problems.

@lsfm-na.bsky.social Is this heaven, or am I just currently surrounded by ELEVEN DIFFERENT LIGHT SHEET MICROSCOPES? So thrilled to be out here in Acadia chatting about microscopy!

The newest budget numbers out of NSF are... not good. We're looking at worse than worst case scenarios for U.S. research universities. That's in addition to all the other attacks. Every person w/ a word processer and an hour of time should be penning an op-ed to their local papers this weekend.
