This is a great play. In ’97 I was BBC Environment Correspondent & was right beside Japanese PM Hashimoto as he welcomed Al Gore with this: “It would be going much better if not for you”. He didn't know we were filming. Gore’s grin went rictus. All on camera. seatplan.com/london/kyoto...

Here's some food for thought for anyone thinking of increasing oil exports ... The original story is from Bloomberg - a hotbed of rabid radicals. theprogressplaybook.com/2024/11/28/c...

Conspiracists are about to get a dose of a terrible reality. Without the guardrails of vaccinations, the Anti-vaxxers are a self-destructive movement. I feel sorry for their children. Very sorry. www.thetimes.com/article/b3bb...

This can't be flagged too often. It's happening because solar delivers very cheap energy. Wind too. As do grid-enhancing sodium utility batteries - the next big investment boom. Hello Mr Trump. Anyone at home? financialpost.com/pmn/business...

It’s a NW European brain rot. Eire and the UK celebrate devastated eco-systems as National Parks . Bare hill, over-grazed, flood-accelerating disasters.

Fact check: nearly 70 percent of US money for Ukraine actually went to US defense industry to replenish the stocks of OLD stuff that went to Ukraine to use. Much of which we would have paid to destroy as their lifespan expired.

Sobering.

God's Eye. "BYD threw a bombshell into China’s EV sector with its Monday reveal that its advanced driver assistance system—known as “God’s Eye”—is now available in over 20 models, with the cheapest model, the Seagull, priced at under $10,000."

Another renewable energy company heading for Texas. At this rate the state could become a global centre of excellence for green energy. Err … was that in the MAGA script? www.businesswire.com/news/home/20...

A big shoutout for a magical book. This is inspirational, packed with knowledge and written in superbly crafted prose. The Irish Times should give him a regular column. He’s a rare talent: A great conservationist and fluent storyteller. Also, set in the land of my forebears: County Cork

“Energy storage is a big deal and will become incredibly important in the future,” Musk said. Tesla expects battery storage deployment to grow another 50 per cent in 2025 … and it anticipates that costs will continue to come down. Has he told Trump? reneweconomy.com.au/tesla-batter...

Just heard to Ed Milliband on R4. He comes over as a policy wonk making renewables sound like a nerdy moralising blah blah yawn I just dozed off. For FF's sake, Ed - they're big, cheap & exciting and happening now. It's a great opportunity. Yr job is to sell a vision, not a small-print coma.

Are they hoping to be a cheap energy exporter to the rest of Europe? Also, more wind than solar. That’s a surprise.

You may run into people who say that renewable energy is expensive. Here is an explanation of why that's not the case and how it actually saves the economy money. www.theclimatebrink....

Is Trump a Chinese sleeper controlled by Beijing …

Is this the end of US global dominance? (we Brits know a thing or two about what that feel like). The future economy is tightly intergrated & all-electric. And Chinese. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/28/o...

First, it’s very hard to get a positive test result for Lyme. False negatives and false positives are common. Then once diagnosed, it’s even harder to get effective treatment. And the longer the delay in treating, the less effective the drugs become. Awful.

NEW: Tesla’s EV sales are slipping but GM’s are heating up, aided by affordable new models and an ex-Tesla battery star #electricvehicles www.forbes.com/sites/alanoh...

My thoughts on the Kamikaze King of Coal ... open.substack.com/pub/fishrise...

It does. And has done for 30 yrs (Geneva COP, for example). Giants Munich Re & Swiss Re have great, accessible data.

Price gouging is the phrase. Not ‘a tax on green living’. I have a drive & solar, so 10k miles/yr costs abt £130. Give or take….

The LymeX Diagnostics Prize has announced the Phase 3 winners in the $10+ million competition to accelerate the development of Lyme disease diagnostics. www.lymedisease.org/lymex-phase3...

Fossil fuels as stranded assets… with The Donald as Stranded Asset in Chief. We’ll have to wait awhile for the denouement, but there surely only one ending to this story.

'suppose Trump didn’t get the memo The world’s renewable power capacity is expected to surge over the rest of this decade, with global additions to roughly equal the current power capacity of China, the European Union, India and the United States combined - IEA. 'Cos it's cheap and very profitable

Correct. This is a slam dunk prediction. Worse, he will saddle the US economy (and consumers) with high energy costs and diminishing returns on oil/gas exports into a contracting global market. It's proper DOH! moment.
