I think it's kind of wild that I know who Doug Ford is and that he appears on my trending section. It's like if the Governor of Massachusetts somehow had global relevance, though, maybe bluesky just has a lot of people from Ontario on it.

If you are a political party outside of the US and Elon made an appearance in your rallies that should really be the prelude to your downfall rather than a historic gain given what we've seen Elon do to the functioning of the US government, but we don't live in that world.

Maybe I'm a prude or something but it feels weird that words like 'glazing' and 'circlejerk' are becoming part of normal parlance. I guess you can compare it to older words like 'brown nosing' which is also kind of nasty, but it feels so normal now that you can say it in a professional setting.

This is honestly an absurd clip. The claim made here "Wokism" and Environmentalism is a re-emergence of proto-indo-European (PIE) norms that were 'maximally fascist and communist' and at the same time PIEs would be disgusted by how diluted their traditions are b/c we don't kill our enemies.

LOWELL MENTIONED

What really forces me to understand how powerlifting isn't nearly as much about raw muscle and strength as it seems is noticing how my bench press is down by 10 kg from a few months ago, but I'm stronger than ever on machine tricep and chest isolation exercise.

Mixed feelings about this one because I disagree but I think the poster is getting at something. I appreciate that lots of people in the comments are ardently defending wikipedia and also pointing out how encyclopedias are meant to be used vs. other sources but....

it humbles me to say this but since lots of subreddit mods have taken a stronger stance against fascism by banning links from X than the Democratic Party as a whole, i have no choice but to drop "reddit behavior (pejorative)" from my vocabulary

Looking up forum posts to see what people think makes a 'good' or 'bad' physics textbook and most of them are just 'this textbook is bad' followed by a reply that's like 'are you kidding me that book is incredible.' Incredibly unhelpful.

This has been a slow burning hobby I've been doing and one of the things that strikes me about it is how much of an appreciation it gives me for the process of writing anything explanatory. Everything is a damn rabbit hole. publish.obsidian.md/myquantumwell/

what are they thinking.... this is literally cutting him off from the collective orange boy braincell.

wanted to see if anyone else has a feeling that weaponized incompetence sometimes pops up research settings but I get r/Professors as the first result acting smug. The expectation that some people have that you are weaponizing incompetence genuinely makes it hard to ask for help sometimes.

I just have to point out this pun I discovered on Wikipedia's List of cetaceans en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

seeing written Greek in the wild is crazy. Like no way there's an entire country that writes with math symbols.

I learned a lot from this vid. And it's pretty telling that while Feynman had a lot of bad episodes in him personally life, somehow it's the exaggerated worse version of him that appeals to Feynman bros. Anyway, I'm probably the only Bardeen bro because I aspire to be as ordinary as he was.

We laugh, but: a clock is something that repeats reliably with respect to other clocks.
